I was thinking about replaseing my old car because it has alot of miles and needs stuff done to it like a leaky head gasket but its not worth spending alot on. The inside door handle broke so i started looking at something to replace it with but i ran acrossed a metal brake and a mag drill that i need and while i was there i found a trailer that was a good buy. So i may not need a vehical as bad as i thought i fixsd the handle last night.

Well make sure you check rock auto before you write off that old car. My car is almost 20 years old now and I can often times find stuff from 15 to 50 percent cheaper than any of the big 3 auto parts stores.... sorry to hear about the good deals though!

Just rebuilt all 4 corners of my wife's little mustang. Rock auto for springs, shocks n struts . Moog-suspension-parts for control arms. Rides like new, better than new.
My only complaint is Moog is not necessarily made in 'merica any more, and premium doesn't mean greaseable like it should. Fit n function perfect though.

I wondered what happened to Moog, I just swapped a 4 or 5 month old Moog wheel bearing out. Might have just been a bad one but I have always had good luck with them. Well premium may not be what it was, but the bottom end sure seems to have gotten more competitive than it used to be.

Moog sure seems to have gone downhill a bit but for an 2002 grand prix it's probably good enough.

I've used moog since the 70s. Back then, they were a quality aftermarket choice. More so than dorman. Then I hadn't done any significant auto repairs for quite a while. I consider sealed parts a quick , econo fix. Greasable to be long life. Now , it seems the shift is the other way. Was really bummed when the pkg said made in China. Why did I buy moog, for Chinese parts? Time will tell. We do rather aggressive driving in that little car. See if it loosens up sooner than later.

moog ball joints will not stand up in a '98 6.5 chev diesel based on my own experience. the gm ball joints cost twice as much but last 3 times as long

What other brands do you guys use? Ac Delco for gm stuff has gotten outrageous, I have seen some stuff from movetech and some others.. but I have never used them before. I really don't like cheap crap I'd rather pay for so.e quality without getting screwed.

That was the motivation for buying moog. I remembered the name being synonymous with quality. But that was back in the 70s through the 90s. I had no idea China had become their mfr of choice. I did use rock auto for the rest. I've used KYB for several vehicles for loaded struts , been pretty happy.
I got constant rate rear springs from Moog for my 05 ram, big disappointment there. Less than a year later the springs lost an inch of ride height and looked like they were salt sprayed for 10 years. This time I tried AC-delco constant rate springs for the rear. So far, I'm digging them. I honestly think the constant are better than the progressive.
Like you, I've seen this movetech line , haven't had the courage to pull the trigger on them.
I still believe in the old names. Raybestos, Wagner, Moog, A/C, Spicer/Dana to name a few. It seems most of the "big" names are joined under a common banner now. Dana and federal mogul are the big holders. Almost every product you purchase comes from one of their subsidiaries. Just like almost all "performance" junk falls under the Holley brand.
There really is no competition anymore between brands, the same parent companies get the profit. Ones in Michigan and the other in Ohio. ;)

Anyone ever try carli ball joints? Never knew anyone that ran them since they are so pricey.

Lower ball joints are a big problem in pickups that pull trailers alot . If i got a year out of a set i am lucky. I have often thought about building a 1ton with a strait axle 2wheel drive.

As for the Moog stuff and non greasable:

The literature they put out describes why they are non greaseable. It is, in theory, a better system. Is it true? I don't know. What they say is it is a better system.

I have junked several of them they all had the same problem rear ends. I have wonder if i could find a better rear end and not have 2 diffrent kinds of wheels.I would like to build a pickup and a old super duty would make a good start.

I think, dodge and Ford had the same 8 lug wheels. Just backspace was different. Chevy had the weird bolt pattern. You can find rotten dodges everywhere with disc brakes. If that's what your after. Woo-hoo Dana 80 FTW!!!!!
