2012 T870 Code 40-28 Right joystick internal failure

I was intermittently getting the code for the right joystick not being centered in the Y-axis for about 1 year. Today it said that, then deceided to give me the 40-28 right joystick internal failure. Checked plugs and wiring and from what I can tell everything looks decent. Pulled the joystick apart and there's not much to it, but its $1300CDN to replace. Any thoughts on what I can try or other areas to look for a solution before I replace it?

bite the bullet and replace the joystick..

there may be a couple different joysticks available, make sure you get the correct one.
there should be a PN somewhere on the joystick base.
they are "plug & play" no programming or calibration needed
