Nasty way to set precast.
I could have probably avoided the whole thing. The contractor had bare rented the broderson. Called me to just unload the trucks.

He was going to use one of his guys, who has never run a crane, and try to set all the precast with just the broderson, they were 14,500lb pieces. The broderson got delivered with just ball in it, and they were primed to unload like that. I installed block in it for them, and told them I could probably get the panel unloaded, but there's no way to set them with just it, no head height for rigging and its not enough crane to spin them. But they could do what they want.

At that point, I could have just walked away- its really not my deal. But I could see a disaster coming, and did my best to explain how its really not enough machine to do what they wanted to do, even though the rental salesman told them it was- its a 18 ton machine, why couldn't it set 14,000lbs? "Well maybe we can have you come set them". I'm always glad to have work.

I told them I would tandem pick them with my galion and the broderson, and was only going to do it with my operators. No way was I trying to set them up under that roof with a new guy. My operator is a really good hand, so we could just carry them in, and set them. No training required.

Job went really well, considering the room constraints we had.

Roof trusses Friday morning. I got about 5 bundles set and had to quit- it was just too windy, leftover from the big wind thursday. I hate to cancel before leaving the shop, I like to go and give it a try, but as the morning went on, it just got worse.

Other operator had a tree Friday morning with the galion up in springfield, he got back in time to go load the rt and bring it out to the golf course so we could set this irrigation box. 12,000lbs floor section and 20,000lbs wall section.

Old winch truck comes through for the jobsite hauling. No way to get the delivery semi back where we were going.

You have a mast anemometer? The newer Grove at the NUKE actually had one that worked. Some days just does NOT pay to take chances, too much that can go south in a heartbeat.

Nope, have the older version, the a$$nemometer. Usually by the time I decide its too windy, they already want to quit. The old cranes are kind of like montana's old speed limit- "safe and prudent".

The "wind chicken" is kind of a nice feature, but it may tell you wind speed, but it doesn't show you wind load from what you are picking. It gives the operator a nice out "its too windy, my alarm is going off", no guesswork involved.

We had a loads of wind at the Nuke, High spot for site, flat as a board, loads of short buildings to create ground turbulence and Square Concrete structures with flat roofs to accelerate winds already high.

Finished up the roof trusses sat. morning. Was a lot nicer day. Two sets, one on top and one down in the hole. Was kind of crowded in the hole putting on jib, needed ladder to put in the pins.

The last of railway crane is gone. (it was really a dragline) The middle piece, the bottom swing box, was so heavy we had to bring a counterweighted forklift to lift from the other side, forklift on one side and crane on the other side, to put on a truck.20190320_134445.jpg

Well was it worth cutting up? You didn't have to give much for it, its just a lot of time and gas to cut it all, but there was a lot of weight there.

First pic is a little air exchanger. Rest is from today's job. Sewer treatment plant and a bad section. They had to replace some of the little white panels.

We actually got the panels changed. Reinstalled. They had it running and I was mostly tore down, when they came over and said it had to come back out, something was wrong. So I set all back up again, and pulled it back out. A hose in the bottom of the active tank had broke loose when they unhooked it, so they are going to have to pump the tank all the way out to fix that.

Decided that the trailer deck was just too bad, so in the shop it went. We've got most of the screw heads off, and I've got some wood from the mill, its like its almost finished. :)

We didn't even try to take out the old screws, the deck was pretty bad, and one of my guys and I each started in with some bars, and we had most of the deck pryed off by 10:00 or so. Cut off wheel takes care of the screw heads.

It was definitely worth the time. It did not take that many days, but we could not work in freezing weather because my crane does not work in freezing weather. I think that the air dryer is not functioning or something. So the project got delayed and my crane stayed there all winter. Nice redecking job.

Compliments on the redeck. Loads of detail work cutting away the old bolts but worth it. Curious on the nose joints, trailer deck flattens out?
