Our Dropbox is bad in our truck if I get a reman how hard are they to change? I'm headed to look at the truck right now. Our dealer was out the other day and pulled the plug and it had shaving all over in the oil.

Are most of the reman sellers fairly good options? Reman from Volvo is $13k higher then rebuilt from aftermarket company.

Reman from Volvo will incorporate all the updates and improvements. The unit rebuilds may not have the parts or information to perform these upgrades. Also , reman from Volvo will come with a warranty, provided the dealer tech installs and you change the cooler. There is also a software update that helps reduce the likelihood of dropbox failure. It basically rewrites when the longitudinal diff lock comes in and out. Helps to keep the dog clutches from setting up.
Hope this helps with your decision.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know how many hours it takes to swap them out?

Our truck had an updated Dropbox from what it came from the factory so probably wouldn't know if it had the updates or not?

A fella that's been down that road once and has all the tooling, could probably bang it out in 16-24 hours, humpin'. If its yer first rodeo, 36-40 . There's a huge learning curve and a few pitfalls to avoid. Not a challenge to undertake without a service manual.

All that tooling would be needed to swap the one that's in there with a reman?

It's not so much tooling as rigging and cribbing and knowing what you're doing. Where to put the ratchet block, how high to crib your lift point. Where all the little doo-dads are that are going to get broken both coming out and going in. Last I heard FL1002 was latest incarnation with all the updates . You need tech tool to check software levels.
