Tilt bed dump trailer combination

Thanks in advance for any help or thoughts recieved.

I have borrowed a friends combination tilt bed dump trailer and would like to find a similar one to purchase but am running into not finding anything like this trailer.

So here are the particulars:

It's a 21' with a 4 foot stationary front section and 17 feet of tilt bed on 7,000 axles

To the rear of the axle are two beams that slide inside the frame rail that change the pivot point for the lift system. slide them back and its a tilt bed, slide them ahead and its a dump trailer.

Originally manufactured by BMF(?) from Clintonville Wisconsin - appears they are out of business.

I took the trailer to my local trailer dealer -he sells Delta and a few others and he said its one or the other - tilt or dump not both.

Anyone aware of a company that makes a trailer like this or have one to sell?

That's nifty. I'm not sure I like that frame joint design, but if it works, who am I to judge.

You can modify, or have modified, a dump trailer with similar dimensions to do this. The fabrication wouldn't be super difficult if you have the equipment necessary.

I haven't heard of this personally, and it obviously exists, but I think your buddy found a gem.

Most around here are either ramp or tilt. Dumpers I've seen always come with walls, and you get ramps if you want to put something in it.

I have a question... what would you use the dump function for on a flat bed equipment trailer?

As far as function we were hauling logs on it the other day and works very well for that. IT has stake pockets all the way around so the plan is to build removable sides for it .

Thinking about purchasing a good used dump trailer and seeing about getting it modified.

Is there a specific reason you dont want a stake side dump trailer with ramps? Ramps are a lot cheaper, and only mildly more work.

I'm sure you can find a dumper with ramps. Basically the same thing with a more solid frame and ramps slotted under or on the side of the box.

The only thing I can think of is easier loading of heavier equipment.

I agree ramps would probably work just fine for most of what I do - however the tilt bed option does open up some other possibilities .

My concern with the dual role option like the one I borrowed is the strength of the frame when in dump mode - only have about 18" of overlap. IF I have one built I think I would try to slide the insert to the rear allowing for a longer overall insert and more frame overlap.

Agreed. If you dump a heavy load it could bend the frame.

The mechanism is up to you. Maybe that old ring and pin you see on some old lowboy trailers? Idk, it's really what you have available that works.

I had a trailer similar. I purchased it used to fill a niche hauling situation.
It was very heavy duty compared to the one you have pictured, enough that pulling it with a pickup depended on you balancing enough weight forward to balance out the extreme tail overhang. It fishtailed horribly.
I pulled it with a Kodiak so it held it anyways.
Be aware of the nuisance of too much overhang, fishtailing and grinding on uneven drives etc.
I have learned through owning a dozen different trailers sometimes the simplest is best.
A tilt trailer, as you pictured, is not a dump. Everything that goes up on it stays at that angle till it drops. Meaning you have to make it up far enough to do that each time. with greasy floor or wet floor you will need 4x4 at times, or parking it facing down hill. etc.
If you want to load a tractor pulling a trailed implement sometimes it will tilt down before the trailer wheels hit the trailer.
If you want to load more than one tractor you are already sitting on the deck in down position and it wont want to tilt back etc.
If you haul the same situation all the time, and set it up for that it will be fantastic. You won't want another.
Just be aware, in my opinion, they are not as versatile as a flat deck with ramps or tailgate.
I have seen a landscaper in town with a dump bed trailer with an extended tongue with pass thru on the dump body. Only real drawback is a dump sits higher and ramps have to be pretty long to approach it.

• Maybe you need this. 10ft flat deck with a 18-1/2 ft. dump behind it. Heavy frame. Throw some short tired trailer axles under it and be in business. Reasonable and I am close to you. The bed would make a great trailer. Truck is not bad but needs some smaller things to be decent. Could deliver as currently licensed and insured under classic plates.
