In the back of my mind I was thinking this blue one must be the Sayward truck. The owner (Larry) is a friend of HDX's and he tells me the truck actually lives in Port Alberni...

I am currently chasing the rumor of a truck owned/used to own.I don't know anything about the truck.Just a story I keep hearing.b_c_canada_june2012_241 (2).jpg by Kozy Kleen truck/car wash up north.

Just a update.....the brake booster has been ordered .I hope it gets here sooner than 6-7 weeks.New tach sensor arrived today and hopefully solves my tach issue. While I wait I will continue to chip away at the rubber in the box and try and get the new upholstery installed on the front seat.

Still waiting for my booster...
This morning I went out to Mission with a friends ramp/tow truck and finally got my loggers box.It has been 14 months since he first told me I could buy it and then changed his mind..This time I just took the whole truck. Its on a 92 F-250 XLT(loaded) 4x4...I own a 95 4x4 and some of the parts will be handy.
Glad I didn't sell my spare 8 bolt wheels up as the truck was in a field on blocks....I have it stored for now down the street on a friends property for now..

The box has some rust on the outside lower formed edges but has no dents that I saw.The sides are very straight and other than some tidy tank holes the floor is perfect.Bulk head and tail gate are very nice as well...Good score and only 20 minutes from home..

Still waiting for my booster....
I have mentioned before that I am building a prototype machine at work.I am 6 months into it and have started the assembly at the job site.We designed the machine(Mountain MFG) 10 years ago for a customer but oil prices and investers affected everything....I am free to talk about the machine now as they have gone public with it's purpose but I will wait till it's more assembled..
Big job for me as I did all the fabrication work and all the fitting.Assembly is up to me as well altho I have a few guys helping me with the big stuffWCP 001 (2).JPG WCP 002 (2).JPG WCP 003 (2).JPG WCP 005.JPG .
We will be standing up the columns tomorrow morning. They are 10,000 lbs each.Electric motors are 300HP ea..Check out the size of the gear boxes...

Hey Ian...I have a tandem front axel flat deck coming in with a hyab (sp) on it for tomorrows lift.I have a very low ceiling to contend with. The two big pcs of the press are just over 30,000 lbs each..Plan is to use a new style (very large) tow truck that has the rotating boom on it...We have already done the math and the owner of the rotater says it shouldn't be a problem...
I have a plate that bolts to the top of the columns with a lug welded on.Should be a clean vertical lift. The pit is around 3' deep so that helps.Columns are 13' long.....

Yes....one of the TV show trucks and drivers.......
Spent the day there today.I have a hired along time friend to help out.He is very familiar with rigging and equipment. There is no one at the shop who does what I do so I had to bring some one in...Don knows my work and that good enough doesn't work for me.I also have one of the bosses son's.A hyper 25 year old with some wrenching skills (he is also the painter on this job)...Just need to slow him down abit...
So while I fit and shrunk the hubs on the motors and gear boxes they installed all the columns and then we placed the gear boxes. It all went just fine..
Other than.....our ceiling height restrictions are very apparent and I have to re think the next two big lifts...The gear box is 1/2' lower than the motor.I will probably have to pull twwcp 005 (2).JPG wcp 007 (2).JPG wcp 008.JPG wcp 009.JPG o columns out and front load the machine.....Stay tuned...

Ian...so far everything looks with in reason.I have most of it 2" of the ground(jacking bolts) so I can adjust it.The machined pockets in the column get solid blocks bolted in them and that will make it very rigid...Once its all lined up and straight everything gets grouted down...
All the mounting studs are actually part of a large framework that is now in the concrete.
That is me standing there with the owner of the machine....

Spent my weekend at work trying to get one of the 30,000 lb pcs together...This is a support shaft for one of the rolls...I will install the other one tomorrow and get some better pics..Wheels are ground to size and have two bearings in each one.Shafts are either 4140 or 4340 ground HTSR (heated treaded and stress relieved)

True...I spend a lot of time at my kitchen table trying to figure this out and how I am going to approach it,but then I kinda approached the Grizzly the same way.Major difference is I am getting paid to do this....Huge job and its gone well so far..No screw ups on my part or any of the welders and machinists. The odd engineering burp but that's to be expected...It's all good.
Finished the lower pc today..Upper is more or less the same...Out of respect for the customer I wont show it complete...I'll talk about what this machine does later.....Don't know why it turns the picture sideways..

Hydrotech tells me my booster is being shipped early next week..Should'nt take me long to do the refit and get the truck back on the road again..I am also working on putting A/C in the truck as well.Should'nt be too difficult...I need to change a housing on the side of the Cummins for the newer compressor.A long time friend works at Thermo King and he will help me out.I am going to a roof top unit as I have no other place to put the unit. Also the condenser is in the unit so no jamming more stuff in the nose of the truck...Have'nt told my upholstery guy yet about cutting a hole in the new headliner....Roof top unit is 7.5" tall...
