Volvo L70 engine problems

Hi

My L70 loader has the TD45B engine. The other day it started to lose power as if it was low on fuel. Filled her up as she was getting low but problem stayed.

It’s fuel related, seems to rev ok in neutral, but when it’s under load and your travelling and start to load bucket up it’s starts to lose power. When it starts to die you can kick the throttle and it comes back to life. Also noticed it won’t start now unless your on the throttle.

Throttle linkeage looks ok, put new fuel filters on, changed lift pump, still the same. May change fuel line from tank to filter next incase it’s pulling in air.

We noticed the Injector pump was loose the other day, tightened up ok. All other feed pipes etc are ok, and it’s not leaking diesel.

Does anyone have a clue where to start?

Cheers

Karl

I agree it's starving for fuel. Either check the suction side from the tank to the injection pump, or rig up a pressure/vacuum gauge to see what it's doing when it slows down, then move the gauge to narrow down the location of the blockage.

Banjo bolts are good places to clog up, does volvo put screens in them?

I would unhook the line between the filter & the fuel tank, loosen or remove the tank cap & hit it w/ a blast of compressed air..
Wait a few seconds till fuel flows back out the hose & hook it back to the filter head & give it a try.

Nobody ever looks at it it gets packed up with crap and never gets resealed
That is the number one source of air intrusion on older Volvo mechanical pump line and nozzle engines

Does the little relief valve sqeek when you prime the system with the hand primer . It is the return banjo on the injector pump ,if you are not familiar .
