I was boomed all the way out today. When I would stop from swinging it seems like the boom moves too much side to side. Is there wear pads at the end of the boom sections? The crane is s 1987 with 600 hrs.

There's a small plate with two Allen head bolts on the side of the boom at the end of each section. Then another one about 3' back. There's small brass pads in each one of those. That's how you adjust your boom side to side.

This is very important. Whatever you do to one side you do to the other. If your not paying attention you can get your boom dog legged pretty good with those adjustments.

I usually just crank them tight, then back off a 1/4 turn or so, kind of like setting a wheel bearing, loose, but not too loose.

I usually like to adjust them with the section fully extended, then use a string line or eyeball each section to be straight with the base section. Do that one section at a time with the boom down flat, then stick out all your sections with the boom up, and if you get behind the boom, you can eyeball and see how you did.

If you are off with a section, you can see which section is off usually by getting behind the boom with it up at 65 deg or so. A little off on section #1 will be really off by the tip, and that affects chart, you essentially have the crane in a constant side load. It needs to be straight.

Yep what crane op said.

Yes, the pump section that powers the outer mid is half the size of the pump section that runs the inner mid. Stupid if you ask me but they didn't ask me.
