tractor was rebuild apx 5000 hr agao new all new wire harness was done by cat dealer at that time remaned all ecms since that time cat has replaced 5 yes 5 engine ecm all have given different problems . have had 3 different techs work on it all cat field service . I feel we are fixing the problem but not the cause .told them Friday no more reman ecm . will try a new one next week . but feel we are missing something . any one had this problem

Seems like a hard issue to diagnose properly.The harness is 5000hrs old? The ecm has failed about every 1000hrs? Bad ecm grounds? Water getting into the ecm?

Electrical interference from the alt causing phantom ecm issues? What specific codes/ issues?
code that they cant find the problem was 248-2 [invalid cat data link data ]spent all day wesday trouble shooting old 200hr ecm would let tec talk to it in the moring he got it to run for a short time then engine stopped and would not restart could not link to engine ecm at one installed new ecm loaded soft ware and started loaded and took to my shop did not finish all down load of soft ware [I had a 330 ex go down 2 bad injectors he worked on it thu and fri he got it fixed will be back on 8r Monday ] and now that it is in my shop we will spent more time on it next week
