I understand "windchill" but never liked it. Some people are not careful to say that is what they are referring to and then toss in the ºF and ºC and it gets even worse when comparing temps.

If a Canadian says it got up to 20º today some one down here in the states would be shivering when in fact it would be a nice day for going for a ride on the motorcycle!

-40 is where C and F are the same and it's damn cold but even -20C with a strong wind will feel just as cold or colder.

What do you guys do for money when it's cold enough that you can't work for months? I have never understood that since I'm from Texas and it doesn't get that cold here even though the lows are in the 20's next week. (Global warming?)

Does everybody in construction in the state draw unemployment when when you can't work when it's cold?

Nothing slows down in the winter anymore, at least not on the larger commercial projects. Simply lay out the water heated ground thaw tubing, blanket them and in a couple days dig. Install the foundations, exterior walls, temp cover the windows and its temporary heat and business as usual. Biggest issue is getting concrete when its below zero F as even with using hot water and sand in a 10 yard batch you are pretty much limited to a 30 mile delivery distance and a quick unload window. Nowdays when pouring concrete, hardly anyone builds winter shelters anymore. Just pull the heat tubes close and drag the blankets back over the pour. Clothing today is so much better than a few years ago.

We drilled some shafts Thursday and at first were told no mud as it was under 32. Having lived up north that made me laugh. I will say they have gotten a lot better about preparing the roads, getting plows etc for the rare occasions we get ice or snow. 15-20 years ago things flat shut down. One year, maybe 07, we got a really bad ice storm. Power out for days/weeks etc and I ended up throwin chains on my old feed truck and going to Tulsa to get my old man so he could grocery shop and some other odds and ends for family. As big as Tulsa is we almost had the entire city to ourselves. I think I ran on those chains for 3-4 days it was that bad.

The house I had at the time sat on a nice 1-1/2 acre lot with beautiful mature trees. I had just trimmed them up nice that fall and had the backyard like a golf course. It trashed them. We laid in bed all night long as the ice came down and accumulated. Started hearing small branches go and then some thuds so loud and hard it shook the house. Tress came down root ball and all! The one that upset me the most was a really nice oak, two full grown adults couldn't touch hands trying to hug it. All that was left was a 40' trunk.

Ice storms are a bugger. They are much worse than snow storms as far as destruction.

almost don't want to know.. although steve has had just about the worst luck (quite a lot was self inflicted, and I have done plenty of that too) reading TC's most hilarious descriptions of just about everything kept me glued to this thing..

You should tell your service manager or customer service rep about the thread on this site. Tell them it is 34 pages long and the most reviewed thread on the site. You might get the best running 3306 overhauled by the lawnmower mechanics at ziegler.

I have told my people at the local dealer about how I have treated them on here and the quality of the new products. Didnt seem like they cared much.

I haven't been on in a while and was rather shocked to see the length of this thread. Could any one do a short summary of the major points?
Thanks in advance

I have a prediction that they wont work on your dozer for half a year or longer till you get pizzed off and take it somewhere else, as now its out of their pocket to work on it...I personally at this point would consult my attorney and have him/her send out letters to all parties involved to get working on fixing the dozer, you have nothing left to loose on it at this point and time, but they are stalling to do any work on it because its going to cost them, also time has a way of making agreements and what was said much fuzzier and people to blame disappear from the picture and they will try to bill you again..

I talked to Ziegler caterpillar in St Cloud this morning, they have the machine in the shop. They pulled the head off and found the cylinders scored, again!!The service manager thinks maybe the fuel system is not compatible with the spacer plate block engine. The original engine was a counter bore engine, the engine i got from Capital Exchange was a spacer plate block engine. Service manager is going to do some research. He says basically that we have the same problem that we originally had when I brought it to them. Might have to change the fuel system to correct the problem!!

I have some thoughts on this latest claim by the dealer but not having the full story I'll keep them to myself.

Does anyone on this forum have any ideas as to what could be causing this problem? The service manager seems to be stumped on the cause. He thought for sure the rocker assembly was causing the cylinder scoring, but he didn't now seem so sure. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and forwarded on to Ziegler. Thanks a bunch!!
