Here's a Western Star 6900 I saw at Conexpo. The Western Star rep I talked to said it was going to a diamond mine in south Africa. It was even a right hand drive unit.

The bars between the rear tires are for getting rocks out that get stuck between the tires. The heavy duty off road trucks have them. Its just a piece of square stock and normally gets worn to a point from rubbing on the tires

Since the truck is equipped with DOT lighting, it must travel in traffic, perhaps between jobs by permit. Low bumpers are required by DOT now on heavy trucks to prevent decapitation in a rear end collision with an auto.

Radish, Not to sound argumentative, that tractor you posted only has 60,000 LB rears, thats a lightweight! :) The dump at the top of the page has the 100,000 lb planetaries, W/ a 30,000 lb front beam on 13.00-24.00 tires according to some info i found on them. Im gonna guess it weighs close to 20 tonnes unladen, which would give it about a 40 tonne load rating. That little jigger you posted could only Gross 39 tonne.
