359 Pete. Replaced the motor with new not long ago. Don't drive in rain much so they must dry out. I shot WD 40 down the air hose to get inspected and it worked for abit but not long. Something good I can just introduce thru the hose?? LB

Try giving it a few drops of air tool oil. Don't take much , just about 10 drops.

Cat at least used to sell an air wiper lube, I had some at work it came in a pint bottle as I recall.

Spent a bunch of time searching old records and SIS with no luck last night. Recall it was a clear liquid, about the same viscosity as say 30 wt oil.

Might be dropping by the old shop to make a donation to the used oil heater tank next week or so, if the bottle is still sitting on the window sill where I left it I'll try to get a part number off it.

Sort of related to topic at hand......in the 16 years I drove my 359 the single best investment I made was electric wipers. The kit I did wasn't much more that a single air motor. Food for thought if you find yourself in need of a motor again. I did several air before I had that revelation. I would say any lube helps them and remembering to run the on ocassion as they seem to corrode and get stiff.

LeakyBoot,

Finally got to the shop today and got the Cat part number for the wiper lubricant. Cat Part Number is 8X1153, bad news is when I checked in SIS it comes back "Check dealer for availability" which probably means obsolete but migh be some on the shelf covered in dust!

The bottle says it was made by/for Sprague wiper company. Also mentioned it was silicone base liquid, looks to be about SAE 10 weight oil or lighter.

Did a bit of search online for them and could not find a source for the lubricant, but did find this information:

PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE
− Additional Lubricants Added To the Motor
Additional lubricants can be used as a preventative maintenance or as a field fix for sticky units. If "O"rings are not damaged and the motor is not frozen, lubricant injected into the air lines will keep a motor running. We recommend that one half ounce be injected into each motor at a location as close to the motor valve as possible. Allow motor to run fifteen minutes (remove arm or place a rag under blade) to work the lubricant through the valve. On an average system, lubricating in this manner every six months is sufficient. Where heavy contamination is present, more frequent applications may be required. This is not a substitute for proper maintenance but can give relief for most contaminated systems. A light viscosity, wax−free oil is recommended. Do not use any type of penetrating fluid or oil. While these will free a motor, they may do more harm than good. They will break down lubricants in the motor and attack "O"rings. Most are not intended for pneumatic use. Only under emergency situations should these be used and shoud be followed by the addition of lubricating oil and possibly a breakdown and manual regreasing of the motor.

I'm thinking something like good old 3 in 1 Oil would work just fine.

Good to know. I already tossed the air wipers from my W9. When it goes back together, its getting electric motors. Do they bolt right up or is there modifications that are required?

It's been awhile but if memory serves the motors bolted right in. Tank bolted to firewall on drivers side. Overall pretty darn easy. Man the difference is night and day. Delay, the park like they're supposed to, even wash when you want them to.

I never had anything with air wipers until I bought the old W9. I hated them right off the bat. Figure since I'm redoing everything I may as well update stuff as I go along.

Cannot beat electric from air conversion, never miss a beat on electric and don't freeze up when most needed!! Kit price will be cheap replacing air motors once a year labor and time down.

Plus having a delay that functions is nice. I suppose it depends on how much you drive it. I think the kit I got was in that price range. It was two or three kids ago :p
