Maybe you could wiggle into 'portable' line boring @ Cat Dealer?
Schools? Most basics are available online...
Online Lineboring Basics
Climax BB5000 Set Up & Operation, Video duration 40:25minutes

Download and Watch Video-Windows PC using Firefox 53 (updated to 54 6.13.17) use add-on
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-video-and-audio-dow/?src=api

Video Lan Player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html Repeat video segments, slow down-speed up or frame-by-frame, photo capture etc.

Shorter Cmax Video duration 5:49minutes
2nd video @ 1:20 'setup cones will adequately center the bar for most applications'...NOT good advice, you need to accurately establish bore's center-line from a reference point.
2nd video photo capture @ approx 3:26 attached file, RayF please describe relationship of HSS cutting bit to work piece interface, i.e. what do you observe? Hint square shoulder =what?

StanRus thanks for the info. If I can actually get the line boring business to go I want to get out of the cat dealer. Cause for one u make no more money for doing the extra work and two the store I am at doesn't do there own line boring anymore there's one guy in the company that travels around and handles it all now. Even though if I could get into doing it here it would be some awesome experience for a couple years

Stan, for me those two video's don't do anything except how to operate a climax machine.
In regard to the HSS steel, the edge in that clip is not going to last 30 seconds pulling out blue chips. I do often use 90 deg approach tooling. I rarely use HSS,but I always have some sharpened up. 95% of my line boring is done with CCMT inserts. I use them with a 90 deg insert holder and another holder that gives me a lesser angle using the other edge. A very robust insert for cutting weld metal.

I currently work for a Cat dealer and they consider working on someones car or lawnmower moonlighting. Especially if it involves money. They seem to leave it alone unless it is brought to their attention and then it is over. RayF is right. He's helped me as well along with Nige. I know Climax offers classes for operating their machines. I had a chance to go but I was booked so I didn't make it. A lot of line boring is knowing the basics and boning up and figuring out the rest. I've made mistakes and had to redo holes but that is life. It's a little harder with where I am at because we quote jobs and stick to the quote. If i'm quoting my own jobs I do well. When the PSSR's quote them for me, I get a visit from the boss. This last week I helped with repairing a couple of major bogies for a D10. I've never done one but with a little thinking and research it happened. I would like to take the credit but at that point I was just an advisor. Our other machinist took care of it. We quoted them high to give some room for error and it was a good thing. The first set had to be rewelded where the idler shaft shells sit because we overcut them. Live and learn. If you really want to be schooled, go into the weld shop at your dealership and tell them you want to line bore. That's what I did. And believe me I was thrown in to the sharks and had no choice but to learn. But because of that I get called back and included on hard projects.
