So I have been looking for somebody else that has done what I want to do but can't necessarily find just what I'm looking for. I want to cut up a Mack vision I bought about a year ago and make it into a dump trailer. The Truck is trash really, it needs a ton of work and just isn't worth fixing.

I wanting to find out if anybody Has ever cut up a tractor (removed cab, engine, front end and trans) and placed a kingpin in front to pull with a medium duty truck? I would need to install a wet kit on my 4900 but I wouldn't think it would be to hard as my donor truck has all the parts to add it on my truck.

I think I'd want to ditch the factory axles at a minimum, way to much extra weight to be worth fooling around with. I'm pretty sure you could buy a dump trailer for less money than you would have in converting it. Have you tried parting it out and putting that money towards a trailer?

I don't know if it would be worth very much. It was from a salt mine and pretty much everything is rusted. The rear ends have some issues when it rolls it sounds like a bucket of bolts. Then when we tried to pull start it either the clutch is shot or the transmission is completely gone because the engine wouldn't spin. Also they claim it had a miss in the engine? Plus the windows were left rolled down part ways and the inside has a nice film of salt all over everything. The main benefit of this truck is it has almost new 24.5's all the way around. I'm sure everything on it would be worth a little but not sure if it would be enough for a trailer I could afford. I payed $700 for it and assume I could convert it to a trailer (assuming I do all the work my self) for probably another $1000 or so for air lines, hydro etc.

Gut the pumpkins, strip and pinch the frame, build a trailer. I do that all the time on old dump trucks as the local farmers use them to haul rocks behind their tractors.

Make sure the frame and box stringers aren't rusted out before doing all that work. You should be able to sell the extra parts if you choose and have a free trailer when said and done.

I have been thinking about doing this with a flat bed truck and replaceing the rear end with a one ton rear end but i have been told by some one that built a trailer like this that it was very flexable and didnt work well.

We always built Pups off of semi trailer suspensions, all else was way too heavy and expensive if you did not know what it came off of as with a s/n.
