Any advice on replacing the seal that is leaking into the cab of my new (haha) 175B.
I see a repair manual on Ebay for $278 but was hoping someone could walk me through it instead. Thanks.

For anyone not real familiar with the 175B, any chance of a picture or two of the steering column? Might be similar to something else someone could reply about. Much of the parts in a Clark/Michigan were more or less off the shelf parts and not something Clark actually made themselves.

I think they are all the same. I did mine on my 55b. Was a pain in the butt to remove from the loader to rebuild but very simple to rebuild. It has a nut on the center shaft on the bottom mark that nut and put it exactly back where it was. Other than that simple. Too tight on that nut or too loose will not be good once you get it back together

What's leaking is hydraulic oil into the upper gear case. And it over flows that. The lip seal can be bought based off dimensions I have the part number for the one in my 55b but dunno of it's the same as the 175

Also that Pittman arm is probably loose as a goose in an older machine and that will cause really jerky steering. Mine had that and I tightened that Pittman arm with the rebuild but it also had a cracked race on one of the internal bearings but now it's smooth as silk

Thank you for the information. I was hoping I would not have to remove the unit from the loader. I can see it has to come out and be rebuilt. This will have to be a winter project as I can't be down right now. Thanks again

Skf seal number is 12371 for the 55b but I'd bet it's the same as yours it's really not that hard to remove I'd recommend 2 people to do it though

I have the seal. When were you planning to come over and help? I'll make sandwiches :)
Pretty hard to find help out here in goat-ropin country.
