Great to see some of the fallers, Camptramp, thanks. They must have been busy old boys, to keep up in front of all the heavy trucks and loaders. Big old macs and homelites looks like, great photos. Thanks to Jim Backland.

Thanks John Shipp , The late Jim Backland was was a very interesting fellow , he grew up in the "Old Bear Creek Camp" worked in the woods for awhile , then joined the Canadian Air Force for awhile . Then returned to the Woods for the rest of his working life . He had many talents as well as being an above average "Cat Skinner" , he also did Income Tax Returns for some of us at Tax Time . At the time he moved his family into Port Renfrew in the early 1960's there was a fellow that use to bring current "Movie's" into Port Renfrew one night a week , it wasn't long after Jim moved in that the fellow would ship the "Movie's" into Jim and he would run the Projector and show the Movie's . In the mid 1970's Jim took on a Grade Foreman's job at BCFP's more isolated camps . I have many of his slides , I am now Scanning , some I have an idea where they were taken , others I haven't a clue . If anyone recognize's or knows what the pictures are please let us know .
The first picture is an ex Renfrew Divison HDX Hayes logging truck it was originally a preload style truck , in the late 1960scan82.jpg scan83.jpg 's it was converted to a conventional style logging truck , then shipped out of the Division as newer trucks were brought in to Renfrew . This is the first picture that I have seen of the #212 since about 1970

Was interesting how things changed when fallers went from being paid on scale to a day rate, particularly at the Renfrew Division.

I recall being told that when the fallers were paid by scale, or how much they actually cut down, there were around 16 fallers at Renfrew and they stayed ahead of the logging crews no problem.

A few years later when fallers all got a day rate for a 6 1/2 hour day it took 40 or so fallers to stay ahead of the logging crews at Renfrew.

Most spoiled bunch of prima-donnas I ever saw in any logging camp I worked in by far.

I still shake my head at some of the BS those guys got away with back then.

(To be clear, not referring to those guys in the pics above your post as they look old school to me.)

Just my observations and recollections.

Take care.

Sure do enjoy looking at the pictures, must of taken quite a while to get rigged up to get the logs out. Lots of back breaking work, with many ways to have something go wrong and a person to get hurt.
