Any of you guys use winrow interrupters on your wings for plowing? I see more and more videos all the time. They do seem like a good idea, but I think it would be tiresome in areas with a lot of driveways. People always complain, but you gotta put it someplace.

A windrow interrupter and a snow gate are different. One is for gravel and one is for...well...snow.

Snow gate! That would be it. That other thing would be more of a winrow eliminator. They also make them for the wing. I've also seen a video of a backhoe with a wing type attachment following a grader and removing the snow at the end of the driveways.

Looks like it would be a pain, unless it was off a toggle. Just my subdivision alone has about 50 driveways. I bet this contract alone has 900 or 1000 driveways. That's a lot of ups and downs. I know there is more winter to come, but we are in the middle of a big thaw now. These last 2 days, I bet the snow dropped 8 or 10 inches.

I push 50 miles of roads and have 35 driveways to deal with. I can't comprehend hundreds.

Most people are pretty good, I'VE only had a few shovels thrown at me, mostly by women. I had one lady out getting ready to leave, so I stopped and waited. She knew I was there, but made no effort to move, so after a couple of minutes I kept going.....Wham snow brush at the back window. Normally when I went around the block, I would leave the snow on the corner before her driveway. This time I pushed the wing out to it's max dropped my one way plow straightened out the MB to keep it nice and full, went around the corner, lifted my front plow just before her spot pulled the wing in an filled her good. Not something I would normally do, but I did it anyway.

Normally we do anything we can do to keep what goes into driveways to a minimum. But I sometimes make exception to the ones that phone saying "YOU CAN BARELY TELL THEY'VE BEEN HERE!!! TELL HIM TO PUT THE BLADE DOWN!!!". We try and oblige then.... I did one route that had a hamlet in it, so while not as crazy as what you have to deal with, there was enough just the same. People don't realize that for the most part, snow goes sideways.

I'm very Blessed. I rarely get complaints. I always try to avoid filling any driveways or pasture gateways where there are cattle. I have 6 houses where elderly people live. I always stop and clear their driveways. If they are home and awake they come out with coffee, hot chocolate, donuts, whatever. You'd think I gave them a winning lottery ticket!!!!

My only complaint is to be busting a long drift and have drivers come into the trench with me. I'm hitting, backing up, hitting again. They'll pull right up behind me and look at me like I'm supposed to get out of the way. It's always someone that doesn't live out in the country. The residents always get out of the way.

Plowing with the loader can be fun. My favorite is when they leave their cars parked right where you pile the snow. Or when you have half the parking lot plowed, and they park where you have yet to plow.....Because that is where they always park. Can you plow my driveway? I need to get to work. There you go.... How much? 40 40 dollars that's crazy! I'll give you 5. I don't even look sideways now. If anyone needs to be plowed and they are not on my list, they can call the office.

Where i am, the snow gates are *always* the subject of contention, and complaints. The snow gates only work ok when there is about 4 inches of snow, or less. When there is more snow than that, the snow pushes in front of, and spills over the gate. And there is no snow gate on the front plow, bull plow, of course...

The "berm gate" is some sort of magical device that driveway residents worship. It is their obsession. They know that the snow gate works perfectly, in any conditions. And they always instantly say that the plow drivers are incompetent, anytime a snowplow operator has plowed their street.

Want to have fun snow plowing? Come to O'hare airport, I plow with a 980 cat with a 30' wide push blade. Almost as fun as snowmobiling!

Do you run snow tires? I got stuck with our 980 just using the bucket in 4 inches of snow. The rock tires were useless. Once you got rolling it was fine. We found the 980 was too hard on fuel to be bothered using it to plow. Mind you our biggest push blade is 16 not 30 feet. The one I use is only 12.

Some people are clueless. I never ran a grader but cleared some parking lots for apartments. People will park as soon as their spot is cleared or even worse, ask you to clear their spot first so they can park. You just want to push their %$#@!&* car out of the way.

One of the spots I do with the loader, I have to clean one side of the building, push all that snow out an alleyway on to the street, push that snow up the street to an upper parking lot, clean in front of the building, push that up the street, then clean this upper lot as well. The building now houses the extramural nurses. They have their own cars, and their company cars stay at the office at night. Logically, park the company cars in a row like a car dealership. Plow everything, then go back after the company cars are gone. No way....Those little blue cars are all over the place like a checked board. Drove by Sunday, and they're even parked in front of the snow bank. Last storm just missed us, come on spring.

We have good snow tires. I usually plow cargo areas maybe1/3 mile push. Some other areas are 800 ft wide by 7/8 mile long push. Bigger is better. We also plow parking lots with skid steers and smaller loaders with 14 blades
