I am still a newbie on these Cummins engines..Most of the 4BT's that I have come across were 105HP and they use the VE pump like the 6BT in the Grizzly. The 130HP uses the newer "P" pump and its intercooled..I have read pro's and con's on both pumps...

I geared the Diamond T to do 55mph at around 2400 RPM.Truck has a 4spd and I installed a mid 50's 3spd Brownie "A" box in it to help out..New powertrain has a 5spd.Once I get the tag number off the 5spd I will have a better idea of its gearing...
Truck originaly had a Hercules JXA engine in it (201 CI)

I am actually quite familiar with the flat head Dodge engine. My Dads daily driver well into the 80's was a 1939 Canadian Dodge (purchased in 1964).I also drove the car for years. We put a .040 over IND 265 flat head in it with a 1937 Chrysler 3spd with overdrive..Woke the car right up..I sold the car in 1991...It is in Chilliwack now

Timing and minor pump tweaks will go a long way on a 4 or 6 bt, the rotary pumps can be tricky but the inline ones are very easy to tweak. Governor springs raise the upper rpm limit and helps wake them up as well for use in a vehicle. the rotary pump is more driveable I found though.

Not sure If I will do much to the 4BT but the 6BT will get a new fuel pin and governor springs...

Today on short notice a friend came buy with a boom style tow truck and we yanked the engine and trans out of the Grizzly.Other than putting the 5spd on the Cummins I have some wire and hose clamping to do while the engine is out..A good cleaning of the truck frame is in order..It all sounds just so easy......

Stripped the Ford C-6 auto and transfer case today off the engine today. I figure its a C-6 off a 6.9 Ford diesel..Question is where did they get a adapter for the Cummins. It had only been around a couple of years that I know of..

The NP 205 transfer case needs a adapter to fit the NV 4500 5spd but it is easy to get

The engine mounts are rather interesting...Frame brackets have 1 1/2 in holes in them and the mount has a 1/2 stud..Large flat washers were used.
I recognize the mounts but cant ID them.Right side mount is broken.Engine is to big for the small mounts that are for the most part glued together..The brackets on the engine are good...I will have to rethink this one..

Another bit of mechanical challenge for me.I have never worked on a t/case before..Its a NP 205 and for some reason was in my 2wd truck..It is a drivers side drop which is what I wanted.Problem is its a 31spline input and the NV4500 5spd is 29 spline..New input shaft required ($$$).I also changed the shift rails so both axels can be controlled independently, this also gives me 2wd low range.
I also switched both yokes on the t/case and the yoke on the front axel to 1350 series..All 4 main u-joints are the same size.I have to build new drive shafts so it doesn't matter about them..
I put some new bearings, seals and gaskets in the t/case as well...
Now I have to do something about a shifter..

Hopefully this week I can get the trans and transfer case bolted up to the engine...

Dismall week for working in the tent....Transfer case is all done and I have ordered the new twin stick shifter..I cant engineer and build one for what they sell them for..Trans has been modified for shift rail clearance on the t/case and I played in the tent today and installed the flywheel and clutch...
Currently building a mount on the trans for the e-brake lever....The ball stud in the bellhousing was NFG so I have a new one on order then I can assemble all of this...Would really like all this stuff back in its home before the 68 arrives...
My fenders are due back from forming next week and I would like to get them fit and welded as well before the other car comes home...
Doesn't matter how much space you have....It just never seems to be enough

Diamondtguy, there was a small display on FB. Showed a wife standing over hubby ready to strike. She says you already have 3trucks. Why can't you be like normal guys and just watch porn? Watch your back lol. Bp

Lucky for me Mary likes what I do and she also likes all my toys but....she has made it very clear that I have enough and I don't need any more (read...I'll beat you with a stick if you buy anymore)
She very much wants to drive the Grizzly and the Diamond T..

Had to go to work today but I finished off a bracket I had forgotten about..E-brake handle bracket...I remember driving the truck home and the handle vibrated worse than Peg Bundy on the back of a Harley and just as irritating.Had some funky little sleeved neoprene bushings and mounted the handle with those..Bracket has 3 sets of holes as I am not quite sure of where everything is going to poke through the floor...

Time for some clean work...I got all the formed aluminum back today for the fenders.Lots of fitting and welding to do..Its .125 5,000 series aluminum..
I changed the side profile of them.Originals had just a 90 deg return on the out side.I changed it to 45 then down and under..

Excuse me while I slide off my topic....New engine and trans showed up for the Diamond T..It is sitting at work next to my bench.I had it shipped up from Miami...
Its not a 16V71TT or a 3408 Cat but it is a Cummins and they were around when the truck was new..Sounds nice in the video. It will be a year before I get back on the Diamond T..
I will not be able to use the intercooler and some of the parts but as most of you know its better too have to many parts than not enough..
Very happy I have a heated shop......

Here is a video of my new engine and trans..

Spent the day today welding up the fenders and figuring things out.Original light boxes were .125 metal and the fenders were either .110 or .125.The new stuff is .125 so my new stuff is 1/3 the weight.
I need to get a hole saw for the wireing harness and weld up the other light box...Maybe next week weather permitting I can fit them up...Then off for epoxy coating...

Honestly...I haven't thought about paint at all..For the most part the paint is ok on the rest of the truck other than the rotten tailgate, roof damage from the marker lights and some blistering around the windshield..
The fenders, headlight boxes and new tailgate will just get blasted and epoxy coated satin black for now...

Mary wants me to paint it but It would be a color change and for me that means stripping the truck to bare bones and starting over..I just don't have time for that right now..

As far as the color...Mary wants me to paint in Military green (drab I think they call it) I on the other hand haven't thought about it.It would be something no other Grizzly wears...
