It's a lumber truck, no bed means less weight and more payload capacity. Those cross pieces that the load sit on are actually chunks of aluminum frame rail from another truck. That truck also has an aluminum frame and cab, the tare weight on it with full fuel tanks was only 18,000 pounds

That's what I thought. That is light!

My brother had a 1960 Ford set up without the crosspieces, he hauled 8' RR crossties.

The rails got pulled off and used for a set of doubles to try and get an even lighter setup. It's now just a bare truck parked in the yard right beside that bubble nose. Neither one of them run at the moment, but my goal is to get that bubble nose back on the road and recreate that picture, that would be a hell of a setup to take to the truck shows!

New to me trailer, with its first load, set of high clearance sprayer skinnies. My dad bought the sprayer with the extra set of tires last year or year before can't remember, but well overdue.

Here's a few..... I could post one a day for a couple years and still have some left! Haha
Not sure what order I put them in but there's a 657, 385 and a grove 9130E.

This black trailer is an amazing trailer, can you configure it for super heavy loads or just regular heavy? Is that one trailer differently configured?

The black trailer is an 85 ton Kalyn Siebert. It's set up to run like that all the time, not really modular in axle configuration but I have deck inserts for it. It'll carry about 100 ton comfortably if it's not too top heavy. The gray trailer is by far the toughest lowboy I've owned. Way underrated at 60 tons. I've moved a D11 without the blade here and there a few times with it.

I am just wondering 1) Can you back up with a trailer with extra front axles and 2) How easy is it to turn with so many axles on the rear? Does your truck have a huge 500 hp engine on it to pull that stuff?

With loads up to 100T, I can't imagine not having at least 500hp and an 18 speed. More power and gears wouldn't surprise me.

I have a 500hp Detroit 12.6L with an 18 speed. I can't imagine wanting any less!

It's more about gears and torque than HP. I've run 435 HP to 550 HP that all put out 1850 torque. I always run a 4.56 rear and an auxiliary behind a 15 or an 18. Getting around isn't horrible bad, there's just some places you can't go. With a 30' deck we were 134' long. Backing with that particular trailer wasn't too bad. It wasn't full steerable but we had awesome bump steer and with the right tillerman you could get around pretty good backwards. Assuming the driver knew how to back with a jeep. I stuck that pig in some tight places with 40' in the well. Won a steak dinner off a project manager in GA as a matter of fact. Also, we ran 50-55 mph tops. It takes a lot of fuel to run any faster with a small rig let alone one with 50 tires on the ground and lord knows what catching wind. It's a whole different segment of trucking. About the only similarities are the DOT man. Usually we were so wide or heavy they couldn't weigh us on a fixed scale. Some states met us at the line, did an inspection and weighed us. Some didn't seem to care as long as they stuck us for the high dollar permits.

Here's a job we did a few years back for a freight forwarding company. My little fleet did exactly what the video shows. We worked out a$$es off!!! The Kalyn is shown several times in the video. The gray and orange Pete with the Liddell 13 was a friend of mine that helped out.

I haven't talked to him for several months if not longer but last I heard he was still there. At that time he was pulling a flatbed hauling aluminum for a contract they have. Super guy. The two of us have done more with lowboys than most dream about LOL. Legal or otherwise!

Haha, he told me some of his outlaw hauling stories and I have no doubt they were true!
