Hi all, new to this forum and wondering if anyone had any pictures of the skyline logging equipment from Port McNeill division, as my father worked on the rigging there in the 80s and 90s. Thanks!

Great to see something from Sproat Lake Division. This truck was delivered in 1958 from a list previously posted on this site. Would it have been carrying out fire tanker truck or sand truck duties during my days working there in the 70's? Where is it at now?

Clintm, that stacker is doing 1/2 the work it is rated for. Take a long time to wear it out. In this area we have 2 sorts using Volvo or Cat rubber tire grapples to unload. Takes 3-4 passes to unload a highway truck. Wood does get speared and logs do fall out of load when long and short logs are mixed. The stackers are harder to find and costly for parts but sure save time and easy on truck and load. Bp

I mentioned to the cashier that it was a very old grader and she said it was the third one hired to get the job done correctly and it was now going smoothly. It shows some wear and tear, especially the tires but it was running nicely. I was in Montana yesterday and spotted the old tire truck, maybe an ex M&B? I don't recognize it but there were a lot of M&B tire trucks.

I see the J73 from Sproat Lake is for sale on the Forestech Equipment website.

I set beads on the J73 when it was brand new on the claim. 'Cousin Four Eyes' was running it. They were using it with a 'Shot Gun' carriage at first, but switched to a regular set-up soon after. I think my closest brush with death was on that thing. That was only 38 years ago....

Just saw a red and white KW loaded headed thru Ladysmith. Looked like Central Island on door. From Port I think. Would be nice to see truck repainted and have original numbers on it. Should ne H453 or 454 from Nanaimo River when new. Still has jeep and three axle trailer. Same as new.

I was going through a box of pictures that I had stashed away and came across these. The first one is Gary and Linda Cathers dining on the fender of H-94 at the truck show in Port Alberni 1998. The second one is Kip White with his H-24 at Cameron Div. It was rare to catch him without the low-bed hooked to his truck.

I have to ask....how is it that H-94 looks so damn clean and spiffy there in 1998 ????

Edit....so H-94 is the 3412 powered truck that had a bit of a accident...Is this after the rebuild..?? I thought the accident was early in its life....

Yes Cory Same truck. When Luke had his little boo boo she was lowbedded down to Intertruck in Nanaimo They were of coarse the Pacific dealer. She was rebuilt and came back good as ever. However she soldiered on for some years and then the decision was made to have her rebuilt again as the new low bed truck. There had been a great deal of success with Karl and H92 under the Lowbed trailer, It had been rebuilt and came back with steering capability. There was Rams on each side that would allow the back end of it to steer around corners. This was fantastic from a "Push Truck Drivers" point of view because now you were in the middle of the road where you should be instead of struggling away in the ditch trying to keep pushing the bed around corners going up the mountain. There was a couple centering valves mounted on the console behind the shifter and a big gauge with Port and Starboard on it for left and right. As the driver was coming up to a corner he would flip the valve one way or the other depending on the corner and the trailer would steer as much as he wanted it to turn. When you were traveling down the mainline you could use the other valve and it would activate a big pin that would drop down into pocket and that would lock the bogie solid and keep him going straight. Karl got unbelievably accurate with this system and you could really boogie right along. Then the time came for Karl and Luke both to retire. This left a real problem,Now the trucks were all being driven by fairly new drivers. It was decided that H94 was the likely candidate for the job. Once again she was lowbedded to Nanaimo . This time she went to Kenworth and they tore her right down and did a total rebuild New cab new everything. AND plumbed for the lowbed. The driver that she was custom rebuilt for was Gary Cathers. That was a hard decision for him because he had got the H140 (H14) new and really liked it. There were a couple of us that were in the running also but we would not give up our trucks LOL so the dirty deed fell on Gary. We still smile just remembering these little things. So as you can see old H94 had a pretty colorful life. Now she spends her time in Ft Mac. It was Weyco that put an end to her and she went through a number of outfits before ending up over at Coast Powertrain. Was a sad time to see all those trucks just thrown to the winds. H92 would suffer the parting out fate and is now a parts residue truck for the fellow down in Washington State that has the H93. Those three trucks were really a credit to Pacific Truck's engineering staff and the guys that built them. Where ever I go and start BSing with guys I always hear the same story YUP I drove those trucks AND also drove the H17. Just gotta smile. And that is some of the H94 saga

Thanks

You said Gary gave up H-14 (H-140) for H-94 and that he really like H-14 so I dug through my pics out of curiousity and found this pic of H-14..No idea on where the pic came from or the date it was taken...

Good picture. I took it up when we were taking the right of way wood off the top of Flora Lake Line 900. There is another picture of when he was coming around one of the switchbacks and I climbed down the bank to get an "Action" shot. I seem to remember him pushing one of the rubber tired log loaders up the mountain and somehow there was a 5 gal pail of anti-freeze up on the deck of the loader and when the angle of approach was greatest it fell over backwards and landed right on H14's hood. It was amazing to hear just how much foul language could come out in one sentence. If you look close you can see the MACK Bulldog that Gary had mounted to the top of the brushguard

Cool....yes I can see the bulldog...Gary had his own reasons for mounting it there I imagine ??..I know some one who put the bull dog on his Hayes but not in such proud fashion.
Truck looks fairly new there but that isn't always the case with well maintained trucks and proud/happy drivers as they can tend to look new forever...I see a single pipe..Truck was KTA powered or had it been repowered by this point..
