Anybody know if you can buy a used Cat skid from a Cat dealer in any state, or are you only able to buy used from your areas Cat dealer.?

Thanks

You can buy a used skidsteer from any dealer anywhere. They won't sell new outside of their service territories.

Unless it's changed, technically a CAT dealer can sell new machines anywhere in the US, *BUT* they have to give a percentage to the dealer that has the territory they sell the machine in, I *think* it was 5% but may have been 10%, basically enough to deal with the joys of any required warranty issues. YMMV

Used machines as Digdeep says, all bets are off.

If you found the machine on cat used you can buy it through your local dealer. I've bought several machines that way. I would go in and talk to them face to face.

I actually found the machines on machinerytrader then clicked on the dealer name from there and it brought up a list of all units available at that dealer.

Whats the diff between CatUsed and CatFinancial both sites show used available units. Not sure if they are the same available units though.

CatUsed is a marketing function available to all Cat Dealers and other Cat entities. Cat Financial is a finance company that finances new equipment purchases and does leasing. CatFi advertises lease returns and repos on CatUsed.

Each Cat Dealer has access to loading their used and rental equipment into CatUsed automatically for display on the dealer's own web site. Cat Dealers purchase new machines and put them in the rental fleets. Those machines can show on the dealer's own web site but supposedly can't be shown in the general equipment searches to the public at large until the unit is at least two years old. I have been told that CatUsed can link directly to Machinery Trader now days if a dealer elects to do that so machines showing in CatUsed may also show in Machinery Trader. It may be possible that the new machines are getting linked into CatUsed without being two years old. The link was established for Rock and Dirt and Mascus some years ago. I've never heard that a machine had to be two years old to be able to sell. In my experience rental machines are revenue generators so purchase prices are kept high. Not many people want to buy them outright. Many times rental purchase deals are done with them or they reach an income point where they are sold off.

There are some quirks with the system. When you first log on it asks you to set your preferred dealer. When you do a search, the system will look through other dealer's inventory but show it to you as being in your preferred dealer's inventory. When you see a machine you are interested in call your preferred dealer and ask if they have it at one of their locations so you can go look at it. You can at anytime make a list of Cat Dealers and go to their web sites and search their inventories directly.
