Hi, need some advice. I think I might have bitten off more than I can chew!!!
My js 130 needs a slew ring, ok so Ive undone all the bolts and thought I would be able to lift if up with chocks, jacks and its own power.......do I undo the rotator pipes and lift high enough to clear or do `i pull out the rotator, if so how. Its really heavy and I'm having trouble controlling the lift. thanks in advance if you can help ps I'm doing it on my own!

Good day Andy
Many years ago before health and safety i did a few using the equipment to raise the front and jacks at the rear, I connected the track motors with long hose's and drove the undercarriage from the superstructure. The machines were not the model you have but the principle would be the same. I would suggest the issue that normally presents it self is that to raise the superstructure enough to clear the rotary coupling. One machine 70Tons+ I used a stretcher bear across the back after removing the counter weights.
Hope it helps
Kind Regards

Good day Foks
Sorry type error should have been "beam" it spread the jacking points wider than the undercarriage so that you could drive the tracks out from beneath.
Kind regards

Thanks ufex, got the ring undone and in the process of jacking up, just got to take hoses off rotary coupling , do I have to move undercarriage away from under or can I fiddle ring back in in situ

So long as you can get the upper structure high enough to give you a clear shot to get the old slew ring out and the new one in it would not IMHO be absolutely necessary to move the undercarriage out of the way. Whether it's desirable or not is a different matter. Approximately how much does the replacement part weigh..?

Also I think for safety's sake you should not be doing this job alone under any circumstances.

Blank the rotary coupling off top side ( so as you can start and move hyds with no leaks) and remove hoses undercarriage side and pull rotary coupling out of the way if no crane is available you will need some good trusty railway sleepers and some big jacks block counter weight up along track length make sure tracks are tight so as not to move and use jacks against main frame of machine and onto sleepers on the track remove bolts from slew ring,
you could do with two people really as you will need an operator that you trust in the cab to boom down and lift the excavator end slowly and block the front up as well keep lifting evenly to get enough clearance we use a fork lift normally to remove and fit new slew ring.
Make sure you start a on a good level surface and slowly lift evenly and you wont go far wrong

Hi, thanks for all the advice. Got the machine up today, old one out, cleaned up the mess, got the new one in and half of the bolts done up. Hopefully if I can still function tomorrow I will get it back down and some of the remaining bolts in.
one of the hardest things was getting the hoses of the rotary coupling!! Trouble is I broke the side handle fitting and now need to extract threaded piece from underneath!!!
It always amazes me what you can do with a jack, a scaffold pole, some cribbing and a good dose of stubbornness.

Did you pull the undercarriage out or do it all under machine? I have to do this soon on my 210 and am kinda nervous about it. Any advice on a place to buy the new ring?

Hi EC210, left undercarriage in situ, lifted high enough to manoeuvre ring in and out (with a struggle), if you have a forklift I suggest this will really help. Got broken piece out today and started to lower machine back down but only spent an hour so will finish this week.

Thanks Andy
I do have pallet forks for the bobcat. How many hours do you think you have in the job (not counting the broken bolt) and did you use the method that jcb Jeff suggested above. I've seen on you tube them block up the back then lift the front way up on a angle with the machine. Seems to me that would be hard to line back up on the way down. Is there alignment pins?

I should think I have 2 good days in it already and not finished yet. Jacked the back and lifted front with machine up to a point and then jacked both ends to finish, used very heavy oak for cribbing across the tracks. your right about the alignment, I'm jacking down at the moment and top and bottom don't align so I'm going to have to try and move with tractor, on this jcb there are no pins, will update as I go, cheers

If you can get hold of new bolts, cut the heads off 2 or 3 of the old ones and grind the shanks down at the ends so they are tapered. You can then use them as alignment pins as you lower down the upper structure on to the carbody.

Thanks for the info. Also wondering how you get the pinion gears lined up with the ring gear. Look forward to the update. Thanks again
