Hey all. First post here on the site. I wanted to share a few photos I've taken while demo'ing the new John Deere 948L Skidder. It's quite a statement piece!

Is this the same size as the 555D Cat skidder. Looks like it needs bigger wood for the size of the machine.

We have a couple around here and they really need duals because they just spin the whole time. With duals it's a real monster

Same class, yes. The Deere has a 9.0L engine running at 281Hp, with a 22.3 Sq Ft Grapple. In terms of capabilities, it is a bigger unit then the 555D, but they share the same class.

beautiful! i used to run a 648G and a 748G and tried a timberjack 660 but that machine has got to be the king of skidding.

Is that machine equipped with the optional spin around seat and controls. That is a cool setup if it works out to be reliable long term. Nice to be able to not have to turn around and man what a view when grabbing a jag.

Yes they come with a steering wheel or joystick steering/rotating seat. It's pretty neat actually you can reverse settings in joystick to change or stay the same while facing backwards. Can also map the buttons on each joystick to operator preference. Also engine speed stays constant and it's slightly hydrostatic so no more clutch or direct drive option.

I read in the John Deere website that it has a varible speed constant mesh tranny. Sound like the same tranny as a Fendt tractor. I would love to get a couple turns in one.
