H155 is with or was with us down in Sarita M&B unit H155-- IPL UNIT # H153 and M&B unit H153 is IPL H157 Conventional trucks As for H140 after she was delivered to Franklin --M&B accounting discovered that there was already a H140 in system down at Shawnigan division. Driver of H140 Gary Cathers got to pick a new number So he chose H14 Ring any bells here??? When truck came new from Pacific she came with BD 91,000 lb Clark rear ends. She was featured at the Truck Loggers Convention in downtown Vancouver (Pan Pacific Hotel) as the feature truck for that year (1989) I think Gary might still have the plastic plate that was stuck on the side giving all the details of her components. She came to Franklin and not long after Mike Murphy the Master Mechanic/Maintenance Superintendent from Pt McNeill got hold of our shop foreman George Pichor and they traded the 91,000 rear ends out if her. Mike had an almost new set of 121 rear ends that he wanted to take out of one of their newer P16's UNIT # H84. So both trucks were put on blocks at two different shops and the rear ends were unbolted and exchanged It was really something to see! Mike had that one down to a science The tires and wheels were left on both units so it was just a matter of rolling them under both trucks and bolting them back in. Guys like Mike are gone from the industry now but man when they were there everything just blended. Can you just imagine trying to do something like that today?? The paper work alone would not allow it to happen Then there would be the liabilities and then warranty thing It just would never end. But because of who they were it was DONE!!! END OF STORY. As a footnote to that Franklin got three conventionals First was H138 driver Cal Smith then H153 driver Pete Burley and H155 driver Jed Ruel/ short time then he retired and Al Cooper got her. Then the two PreLoads H139 driver Don Fortais and of course H140/H14 Gary Cathers We also took delivery of a Challenger Truck at about the same time Don Watt got it After the WEYCO Garage Sale Dec 2002-- H138 disappeared along with the Challenger. Mars contracting bought the challenger. H153 and H155 and H139 was sold to Hayes Forest along with H14. It was decided that H139 would get a set of 121 rear diffs also so she would be the spare lowbed truck when she got rebuilt down at the HFS Duncan shop. H153 and H155 would keep their 91,000diffs.All these trucks came with the KTA600 Cummins in them -- Hayes changed them all to C15 Cat engines. Those same Cats are still in them. When Hayes Forest exited the logging business in Dec /2007 they kept H14 as a lowbed truck for a short time till IPL was able to buy her. The rest you guys already know As for H139 she ended up being bought by a company in Campbell River I thought it was the Olsen Group but heard from "Benaround" one of our members on here that H139 was still hooked to a lowbed up at Holberg and just sitting Can anybody step in here?? So the story kind of ends with H153-(exH155)and H 157--(exH153) with uncertain futures. Only survivor of all this mess is H14 still back where she went new in 89.Is this kind of what you wanted diamondtguy???

IPL unit H157 (ex M&B H153) is down at Chemainus shop waiting to get the trans fixed and then she would be back on the line. Cory I will try and post pictures of all the IPL trucks before they get dispersed. I just don't know either, Keep hoping it was all just a bad dream Be a shame to see them scattered all over the coast after all they been through. These have been very loyal trucks. The drivers have done a good job of making things work and the trucks on the line every day. Will dig out some earlier pics of the "Fleet"

I have seen IPL's trucks and they would appear to be well cared for.Knowing the last HDX and the last P-16 share a parking lot together and work together is kind of interesting..At the end of the day they are directly/indirectly related and do share some DNA....

I look forward to seeing some pictures..

diamondtguy When HFS took us over in Jan/03 they started taking our trucks down to their Duncan shop right away and repowering them and rebuilding them. The H138 had been somewhat of a problem with the ride when new and Pacific came over several times to try and get it straightened out They cut open and filled the front bumper with weight to try and get extra weight on the steering axle to see if that would help. Finally they (Pacific) had the front brush guard chromed over in Vancouver and that made her ride better. When HFS was going to haul her down to Duncan for the rebuild that brush guard was removed at the Cameron Shop and turfed into the scrap bin I kid you not I could not believe it. HFS did not believe in that sort of stuff on THEIR TRUCKS.!!!! I couldn't help it I went over with the bullmoose and lifted it back out and got a Material Pass from shop foreman and took it home. I kept it for a couple years and then took it up to Tom Turner at CR All-Trucks and gave it to him. When IPL took us over we knew that Lyle liked his trucks to look spiffy so I phoned Tom and asked if he still had it? Yup he said so Lyle arranged to buy it off him and it was hauled back down to alberni by Dave Mills who was up there getting some parts for himself. I went out with Al Cooper one day and we spent the day installing it on H14. That is how and why the brushguard is chrome on her. Another mystery solved.

Couple of M&B enquiries for you. H-87, I'm sure it weny to Eve River sometime around 89. The truck has been rebuilt at least one time I'm aware of but still going strong at WFP McNiel as of the last time I was up that way. Im sure H-58 and H-61 came to Kelsey Bay in 88 But I was wondering about the delivery dates for
H-38, H-39 and H-275. More for curiosity then anything. I haven't seen H-39 since she left Kelsey. Was a very nice one driver truck. Ted France took very good care of it.
Thank you for any info

So..H-275.Delivered June of 79.12V71N with twin spicer transmissions..Nice big Clarke BD 121,000 rear axels.
H-38 and H-39 were sister trucks.KTA Cummins for power,Allison 6061 trans and BD 121,000 lb rears.Delivered June 5 1984
All three trucks were Kelsey Bay trucks.
My finger prints would have been all over H-38 and 39.H-275 would have been completed just before I started..
I can post the PDF files if anyone is interested..I believe I have the parts PDF here for Blk Princes 40-87 truck as well..

A guy sure can't complain about the efficiency of this site. Lol

H-275 is rotting away in the head of Toba Inlet. Lowbed truck along with the H-48 at Kelsey for many years.

Thank you very much for the information. Brings back a ton of memories.

Calling The Shop or HDX

H-53 and H-48 kenworths were delivered August of 1984. Who decided on make and model of truck that would work at a division?

diamondtguy, thanks Corey. The one major add on was A/C. After hauling uphill to Nanaimo Lakes gate from our side I suffered a nose bleed. First one ever. A/C made big difference, was not an easy install but had to be done.
