That old Mack came from BCFP Malibu Div. It was a water truck when I worked in that Division in 1976-77 , but didn't look nearly as cared for . Looks like it got some TLC from the Caycuse Shop . It was a Logging Truck from a Company that BCFP bought up in the 1960's up Seymour Inlet called Northern Cedar . Then moved with crew & equipment to Malibu up Jervis Inlet

Pat Mac (Bob MacMillen) BCFP Caycuse Div. A birds eye view of Caycuse and Pictures of Caycuse dump & Booming Grounds .View attachment 147737View attachment 147738View attachment 147739View attachment 147740View attachment 147741
first and 2nd pic definatly caycuse ...but the other 3 not sure.....there wasn't any gently sloping land curving around the dump area as seen in pic 3...pic 3 should be looking at the eventual site of caycuse sort...instead it appears to curve around as if in a bay.

camptramp Did you notice the bigger tires on the trailer of that HDX? Still she was one of the original series trucks and the trailer could have been rebuilt for some reason Note the "I" beam reach and high stakes. Might have been borrowed off one of the newer trucks with Planetary diffs and 14X25 tires. Those HDX's had 12X24 tires all their lives. We would borrow one of the WHD trailers from time to time and they kind of looked similar when loaded on the truck. Just looked like the picture you posted long ago of #211 when she was up the coast

Question. If the TL15 in Post 1907 is yarding, why do I not see a haulback line? Am I missing something?

The only possibility I can think of is that they could have been running the tongs out by hand. As old as that shovel looked, that could be the case, eh?

Mr. Vigilant, If you look very carefully behind the boom you can see a short A frame gantry with the haulback sheave. Coming out of that sheave is a very faint cable, the haulback, most likely 5/8 inch diameter. If you look above the log deck you can see a sunspot. Running through that sunspot is a very faint line which is the haulback line. It is very hard to see, I had to look several times. The giveaway is the angle of the haulback sheave.

BCFP Redwood Climber your correct the Haulback does go through the Gantry . Renfrew Div. had a similar Washington TL15 we use to yard small corners with it , when ever we started to get a load or two piled up a log truck would show up , we would choke a stump behind the log pile , unshackle the mainline from the Butt Rigging tighten up on the Haulback , to keep it out of the way . Then shackle a set of Tongs on the Mainline and load the log truck .

BCFP Nekite River Div. HDX here's the pictures of the #211 at Nekite R. don't think its the same trailer as one in picture posting #1907 it has a round reach . I don't know where that trailer came from it was a mismatch for sure . the truck bunk was about 12 to 13 feet with maybe 6 foot stakes . The trailer bunk was 15 feet with 6 foot stakes , seems to me it had springs under the trailer instead of walking beams . The truck in the picture probably has a spare trailer for a newer truck . I think the #221 had an "I" beam reach in the trailer .Scan499.jpgScan500.jpgScan501.jpg

HDX,just a side nite. All the Olsen trucks at Nitinat had 12x24 rubber on truck but 14x24rubber on trailers. #6 had tapered stakes facing in on the truck and out on the trailer. Made loader operators shake their heads

We had a couple guys come over to Franklin from there after the shut down Henry B and Cookie were really top drawer guys Both very good and capable operators. It would puzzle us when Henry would load us because you always got a primo load nice peaker and all but the load was on backwards! He explained that the contract trucks at NitNat wanted the loads like that Trailer heavy because they had the big rubber on the trailers. Had a hard time figuring that one out -- tough on things when you had fairly steep adverse to pull up out of a landing. Nadira 840 rings a bell. Always sent two trucks together there so one got the good load and the other would be the pull truck and the second truck got the cleanup load and didn't need a tug Henry always made thing work though Another two names to add to the list of gone but not forgotten
