Pile/Sheeting Driving

A few guys around here drive sheet pileing with a hoepack, mostly for sea walls. Does anyone on here do it that way? How about driving it with a breaker with a modified bit? I would doubt that either of these methods would be as productive as a vibro hammer, but if you don't do much of that kind of work it might work out. I also wonder how these methods compare to using say an old fashioned cable crane?

Ive seen a few guys doing it with a hoe pack. It seems fairly efficient as long as its not a real long piece. The hardest part is getting the first one straight and plumb. After that it goes good. I dont know about using a bit on a hammer, in theory it would work, but i think you may have a problem with the sheeting and keeping it from getting messed up where the bit locks on. Granted you usually end up cutting the tops off to even things up. I still think your better off having a hoe pack to do this. Plus your going to get more use out of a hoe pack in mi than a hammer.

Vibratory Plate Compactor

The plate compactor is about 99.9% of what you see down here in Bayou Country , it has become kind of a specialty niche for me setting up machines with wet kits or setting the pressure and flows to match the attchment for the guys that do sheet and wood pilings , you see very feew cranes building boat houses, camps or docks any more , even the house piling industry has moved to vibratory

I've had contractors us the PC to get EM through the day, put they have to keep a good stock of elastomers on stand-by cause they eventually over-tax the compactor when they hit the hard stuff.

We used to drive beams plates with the big vibro plate here is the problem. They drive in 360 degrees, and don't hold it with jaws. We now use a pile vibro hammer a lot of money to but we had a 3 year job. The pile vibro hammer will drive down or up to extract. It's a nitch . Pile vibro on excavator http://www.darrylmueller.com/IMG_0044.jpeg The rig we use to use was 1500 lb big vibro plate mounted on 680L I drove hundereds of steel beams and plates. I put a 1 inch plat on the bottom with an Eye in the middle to help hold things. I can post that a vibro plate picture if requested I got to look it up.

I will look a get it posted asap. I did drive some with the smaller HED shaker on powered by 580 Case. The big shaker takes 40 gpm to run. What will you be driving? Will you also be per-drilling. I all ways get a soils report the blow counts per ft. will tell what you need to do.
Also when you drive with a vibro plate this is really impact driving. When you drive with a pile vibro the vibro has hold of the sheet and it is moving up and down with 45 tons of force (my rig). Like this http://www.darrylmueller.com/MVI_0048.AVI.mov

What size auger motor on the 150 ? and what RPM can you spin the dirt off or do you have clean the augers?

Stanley/HED VibroPlates Driving Beams & Plates

These are like 15 years old.
1. 580 with 6000 driver driving small beam
2. 680 with 11000 driver 5x10 plate
3. 680 with 12/53 beam 20 ft. long

PC 150 is with a 20,000 ft.lb. motor I think it's 20 & 43 rpm. on the 150. I worked in Lincoln Park back in 67? and Netcong? Is'n there a lot of rock it's been a long time!

Yes you go in my backyard stick the shovel in the ground and you will hit rock at -6".

We went in to build the approachments on this wooden bridge. A company out of Florida came to N. Carolina to build the bridge. They used a hoe to drill holes, then hammered the poles in.

Not an inspector insite the couple days we were there, but maybe he came after we left. The bridge was built for a private neighborhood.

I have driven piles and sheets in every method talked about on this tread. done a lot of bulkheads with the old pecker on a backhoe, shaker heads on excavators, hanging small Vibro hammers from the bucket. Jetting them in too. As for the timber pile on the wanna be bridge, they dont need a load test. there more than likely sitting on rock, or the skim friction from the soil will keep them from going anywhere. theres not a lot of weight being put on that bridge.

Well I have to and if that wood pile had been pre-drilled to rock and I knew the depth I would buy it if the shake could drive it to depth, or if it was slop on top of rock OK. This does not look like any of that. Unless it's slop the shake won't drive to rock.
