Thanks for asking! Things are going well, pretty steady. Some big changes... I took a position with the town highway dept, and we have a partner who owns an excavating, paving and logging business joining forces with us in our business. I am still working afternoons and weekends, but the majority of the work gets done when I am not around. Ive been doing mostly small jobs, deliveries, estimating etc. Between us and the partner there isn't much that can't be accomplished, and we have a ton of manpower/resources. I don't have much for pics but I'll try to remember to grab some. Im finishing up a little meadow job this afternoon so I will try to grab a couple there.

We've only gotten a couple inches, but out west of us theyre getting hammered! The buffalo area has gotten 5+ feet with more on the way!

I kept all of them! I came back to the family business after 6 months. The other job was good. Good pay, good guys etc just wasn't for me. I'll try to get some pics up soon. I post in Instagram quite a bit. My user name is nedwhitney. Thanks for checking in!

So I bought a volvo EC140BLC, its an 05 with 5200hrs. It has a hydraulic coupler, hydraulic thumb, tilt bucket and 2 digging buckets. I had been looking for a while but everything was just out of my price range, or salesman wouldnt call me back. I was hesitant on this machine with the hours, but I decided to go for it and Im glad I did. Very smooth comfortable and powerful. Decent on fuel as well. This winter I'll do a few things to make it my own but for now she needs to stay out and earn her keep.

Thanks guys! I upgraded my trailer this year as well, went with the 25 ton mostly for the deck length. I was nervous that it was going to stop me from going into some of the tight spots we go but it isnt much different to get around with that the 20 ton was. What you see in the pic weighs right around 65000. Mack pulls it great. I love the tilt bucket, wouldnt be without one. I have one on my kubota mini as well. I have 36" and 20" tooth buckets as well

the machine looks like it was well cared for and well equipped. Does your tilt have 1 or 2 cylinders? We have a one cylinder on our kx080 and does not hold very good. Not sure if it is the single cylinder or the relief. One more question for you, how high are you on the tag?

The volvo has 2 tilt cylinders. Our kubota 121 has just one tilt cylinder and its not as rigid as the geith with 2. The auxillarys on the kubota work nicer though, the kubota has the proportioning switch on the joystick allows for smoother operation and feathering than the switch on the volvo which is just on or off. Im getting used to it though.

I am not sure why Volvo does not put the proportioning switch on the smaller machines. Our 160 does not have it either but the 300 does. I wonder if that is something you could change by changing the joystick. We can work the thumb with the foot pedal or the buttons on ours. I guess you answered my question about the tilt bucket. I do wish it held better than it does.

I would imagine you could change the joystick to something aftermarket. Volvo doesn't offer anything other than the foot pedal. I'd definitely be interested in something a little smoother.

Our 300 has the proportional switch. I don't see why you could not put a 300 joystick in there but I am no mechanic. Somebody smarter than me would need to help you out on that.

Hi RCTech9, we're very busy up here at the moment, lots of site work to do yet. The weather has been phenomenal and it looks to stay decent on the 10 day forecast. I have a 3 1/2 man crew, I'm the 1/2 man as I am still recovering from back surgery so I cant really do too much but I do what I can. Busy week this week, I have Two foundations to do as well as a new septic system, dywell repair, relocate some utilities, and start a clearing job. Supposed to do a garage pad with power and water, but that may wait til next week at this point. Things are going well, been fairly busy though nothing like last year. Ive had 2 back surgeries in the past year so that has really slowed me down personally. Volvo has been plagued with problems but we are working the bugs out. I have a new undercarriage sitting in the yard for it, and the digging bucket needs to be rebuilt. All in all its a good machine, as with any older machine it seems like there's always things to fix. How are things in Alaska? Happy Holidays!
