anyone know much about A Cat AG6 crawler tractor? Other than it is an ag version of a D6. Type of trans.? overall machine good - bad - whatever......

According to Caterpillar Chronicles by Eric C Orlemann "In 1986, Caterpillar introduced a special agricultural tractor called the AG6. With a longer main frame, 20 inch longer track roller frames, a fuel tank and an operator's cab repositioned 38inches farther forward, this specialised tillage tractor was better ballanced than the D6D SA. Other features included a VHP Variable Horsepower cat 3306 diesel, rated at 200 flywheel-horsepower in gears 1 and 2, and 240 flywheel-horsepower in gears 3 through 5."

Says they also made an AG4 briefly but only 7 before dropping the model. Pulled the plug on the AG6 in 1993. HTH

I have heard that the machines go through undercarriage pretty fast, they are a fast tractor. But there are still a lot of AG6's still working.
