I was driving excavator left track wouldn't go back or forward, shut machine off, see fluid leaking from sprocket, turned back on and finished moving 60 feet, ran fine but oil blowing all over from the sprocket. Does anyone know what is wrong and would have caused this to happen?
Thanks,
Pete

At the very least you have lost the dou-cone seals on the sprocket. At the most because you mentioned it locked up while traveling, your planetary is in pieces inside the housing and you have lost the duo-cone seals. Sorry for the bad news.

If it had lots of oil gushing out, it's likely you have brake seals or possibly a motor shaft seal leaking hydraulic into the planet.

Check the archives here, there have been several threads through the years on EX 60 final drive seal replacement. A lot of helpful information.

You Most likely have brake seals leaking, causing pressure lose to the brakes, not allowing them to release! They are very easy to replace, and i have them on the shelf if you need some!
