I have a miller 225D with less than 1,000 hrs while burning 7018 1/8" it will stick the rod your welding along good about 10sec it just stops or burps for a spilt second and then goes back to welding some times it will stick sometimes right back to burning rod . it done the same thing to my mechanic when it was on his truck . we put a new fine adjustment on it because it had a dead spot. it's very annoying :Banghead:Banghead

Might be a brush sticking in the generator. Does it drop out the same way when you're using it to power tools and like that?

It does not seem to on the aux circuit . But it still does it when using both at same time. We thought about that it's almost seem's that it's running out of amps for a split second just long enough to stick .Does it over a broad power range and different brand rods lincoln or hobart

My Miller Trailblazer started acting funky with about about the same symptom as your 225 D . I checked the brushes & cleaned up the slip rings with a stone and did not solve the problem .

I'm thinking on my machine possibly circuit board or fine adjustment ? Just don't know at this point .

We set another unit on the back of the truck so we could go ahead & glue some pipe together for a customer .

we put a fine adjustment on it not to long ago because it did not work in one spot and always seem to need that spot it fixed that problem but not this one.

Yeah clintm , What's strange about my welder is it seems to be stuck in the same amp range . Don't notice any change in burning heat regardless where the fine adjustment knob is ?

Might weld fine for awhile then all the sudden it's like the amps get cut by 50% . Will still weld but is erratic . Then it may come back all the sudden & weld fine .

Got some kind of " Ghost in the machine ".

We will have to pull it off the truck for further investigation ? I'm sure it's a simple problem , just have to figure out what component went bad .

I'm due for a new model . Thinking about a Bobcat 250 .

Check your leads first making sure all connectors including where the lead goes into the stinger are tight. Does this happen only on DC or does it also happen when you've switched to AC? Hobart makes a 7018 electrode (E-7018 AC) that works well on AC as well as DC.

we never run on AC. I don't think it's the leads because we have used different set's on it but I will check them to make sure. it skip's in all different welding positions so don't think it would be in the stinger end . it also does it in different heat settings. I thought about the slip rings but it's does not seem consistent enough for that. it's like it run out of power for a split second and then recharges.
