I don't know, but I think it just might be the area you are in. I know Holt equipment here in the Dallas area was lookin to hire 50 or 60 new people to staff some new stores they just built here.
If you don't mind relocating to Texas, you should check out Holt Cat, to see what jobs they have open.
Where I am we could use 100 techs just to fill open spots and would have no problem hiring double that. Have a decent background and they will train you on the rest. Plan on working hard but the pay and benefits make it well worth it. Message me for more info if you'd like. It would be a bit of a move for you but not too bad. I can give you some info as far as pay and benefits in a pm.
without naming names have you tried the dealership in Louisville? I know their rental side needs guys, my buddy just left as shop foreman to pursue other ventures. (racing engine building) the shop there only had 2 guys & 1 was a tech school student.. they are looking..
At one point In time it was hard to get into a cat dealer in my area, after a couple years of trying I finally was able to get in. I have since left and now work for a private construction company as a road mechanic but I i know they are having problems finding good techs now and there has been a lot of turnover. Basically what I'm saying is I think timing is everything...
