Tires or wheels out of round

I run a 140m with 17.5r25's. I have trouble with washboard especially in loose base as im knocking it down. Fast slow high or low tire pressure doesn't make any difference. Circle angle doesn't even seem to affect it.. Checked the tire/ wheel roundness . It has 1/2 to 3/4" side to side wobble on both right rears. About 1/2" up and down on the same two tires .. the left is pretty close 1/4" or less. Fronts are pretty good. Im thinking of trading fronts to right rear.. Do u guys think my measurements are out of round enough to cause my problems??

Im thinking the bearings where your tandems hook to the frame may be loose. Angle your heel of the blade back by a driver tire . Have a buddy go behind the machine and watch the tires as you lift that side of the machine. Your buddy will easily see if those bearings are bad.

Are all your tires the same brand?
Had a problem with a new 623 scraper.
One tire on the rear was a inch and three quarters bigger than the other.
Left side of the bowl cut lower.

If your tires were out enough to affect your grading, you wouldn't be able to stay in the seat if you walked her down the road. How long have you been running this machine

I will look at the play in tandem bearings tomorrow .. have noticed oil leaking from tandem bearing area so could be it.. all tires are the same . bridgestones not sure of the model but all are the same and were put on at the same time new.. been on this machine for 4 years and have put approx. 7200 hours on it.. I run trimble gps on it and love the machine just the bounce is really annoying.. still thinking of swapping wheels around maybe it will help

so u think their would be no middle ground where they could just give u trouble grading and still stay in ur seat?? all or nothing ha. surely not I would think out of round tires could be out just enough to cause bounce in loose base or give u trouble when tight on hubs..

What ever you think, but if a tire is out of round, or has a wobble, the faster it turns the worse it gets. Why do you think a tire balancer spins fast, and not slow. Get her out on the asphalt, and get her up to speed, and if the tires are out of round you will know soon enough.

There are a few threads on here about the causes of tire bounce on a grader, but a tire would have nearly for it to be causing this.

I agree, but an out of round tire, and a bouncy tire are 2 different animals. I have Bridgestones on my Volvo, and if you don't keep them over inflated, she squats every time you apply power. I have ran bias ply tires that would become out of round when parked over night, but would even out when they warm up. You could feel the thump at grading speed, and the wheels would almost leave the ground at top speed. My old Champion had a tire that had spun on the rim, and caused it to wobble. Same deal, it showed up grading, and would spill your coffee at road speed. Hence my statement to detect a wobble, take her for a road test.
