I have 6 Volvo L70G loaders with the tier 4 interim engine and I have a lot of issue's with the regen. If my operators don't do everything correctly at times the loader will go into limp mode and I have to get the dealer out to hook a laptop to it to perform a forced regen. Does anyone know how to perform a forced regen without calling Volvo.

It is what it is , i have Volvo and Cat wheelloaders and i'm facing the same problem , we now rebuild the old machines to avoid regen troubles . i have heard of new systems that will regen every 500 hours it would be good because it will be a technician doing the maintenance and manage the regen . Now operators play with the buttons but not allways understand what they are doing

Thanks Paul Six, we buy new loaders every two years and we have about a year left on these interim tier 4 engines and the next ones will have the final tier 4 which has the DEF and only regen every 500 hrs. Hopefully this will be a good thing.

Just to be curious how many hours a year to you use your loaders and what is the job to be done

We are a aluminum recycler and we operate 24/7. The loaders are used to load furnaces. We only shut the loaders down for 500 hr service.

Is there any sort of indicator that tells you when it is going to regen? My other question would be is do the operators know when its doing an automatic regen? Maybe they could try and keep the engine idled up a bit if they have to sit a moment while it's in regen? I haven't had any problems with my excavator, but I watch the gauge, and if it's close, I leave it throttled up. Same goes for if I'm working it and it goes into regen, I just leave the throttle alone until it's done.

macpiper, You dealer should be able to configure your machines so that they will regen without the operator providing any input. The only thing that would be needed is for the park brake to be released for regen to start. Your operators would then need to just let the machine do what it needs to do and not shut the machine down. IF your operators are inhibiting or stopping the regen or shutting the machine off before the regen is complete then they probably need training or a slap with a 2x4.

The machines hould be requesting a parked regen way before they need a service regen. A parked regen only requires the machine sit with the park brake engaged and you can do this on your own. A service regen requires the dealer to perform it with their laptop. Generally what causes this is that the machine is left to sit at an idle with the park brake engaged for an extended period of time, say 6-10 hrs.
