Hello All... I'm stumped.. anyone have any ideal or a page from a service manual that I could get, to remove the fwd/reverse gear. Without taking this completely apart. Although I'm almost there,( taking completely apart ).

I allready have the tractor split about 2" and and some of the gears removed.
Here is a pic or the tractor and serial # if that can help.

that gearbox looks pretty close to my IH 240 utility. I had to replace the forth gear in my tractor a few years ago, it was in the bottom of the gear case too. I had to remove every gear to get to the one I needed to replace. My suggestion would be to buy a manual and take a picture every time you remove a part, the pictures really help when putting things back together. Good luck with your project.

Thank your for the tips Rust.. this it turning into a bigger project than expected. It look like I'm going have to do the same in removing just about all the gears. Now I guess I need to find a manual somewhere. I already had a lot removed but will start taking pics, (I'm sure I can get what I already took apart back together). When you fix yours did you have to spilt your tractor completely? I was hoping I didn't have to remove the front gear cover and take apart the superstructure.

Haboo:
When I replaced the forth gear in my tractor, I split it between the transmission housing and the clutch housing. I split it that way because there was also oil leaking from a seal between those two housings. I was glad I split it that way because it turned out that I had to drive some of the shafts out of the bearings from that end of the transmission. Be careful when splitting that machine, those pieces can get away from you in a hurry. I spent a day or two building bolt on stands that had wheels on them. I took a bunch of pictures of that project, I need to dig them out and look at them again. I hope this helps you with your project. Remember to take lots of pictures and please post them so we can enjoy them also.

Thanks Rust.. well the good part is that I got the gear in and its back together. The bad part I didn't have brakes or power steering. Well now just power steering... I bleed the lines under where the battery sets and got some breaks now. Nothen in the manual really on the power steering ... other then replacing. It working just fine before. I guess I can start off by checking the filter on the right hand side (under right hand footboard). Any ideas on what else I could do?

Good deal haboo, I'm glad you got it. I have been busy working on one of my tractors myself. Nothing I like better than tinkering with something mechanical.
