Never thought it got hot enough in England for shorts and singlet. ;) We are going to be there in a few weeks and expecting it to be as cold a mother in laws kiss. :)

Wow, this snap of me not holding a Beer Bottle is poor for my street cred? as for the weather being hot enough for vests, well we do get this hot week (on average) when the temps hit up near 20degs, that shorts and dark windows are high on the list of things needed, the D8K has managed a crazy amount of frame hours, I have rebuilt it 3 times it was not in bad fettle when I first gained its care, its now in retirement just being used on the odd day when I need some "Gun Smoke"

Ray, I hope things work out well for you on your Island Hop, London can be fun for 2 days but there is not many English people there, at the weekends there is even less, the Cotswolds has some good spots including Mr W.Churchills birth place that is not a bad pitch to dive out of first thing in the morning? the Queens bolt hole (Buck-Pal or England 1) is hard to get past the Butlers to take a wander? but Windsor Castle and the Tower of London are good spots to seek out, you will also find out what a load of blood crazy nutters we happened to be a few years back, this will help some when you cross the Channel and strut around the "Needle" just down from "Champs ar Less" (you will twig it?) as it ends at the Arc de Triumph (GB motorcycle) also please look up Padlock Bridge as the Bride and myself have snapped a lock onto it, and finaly avoid the flash cafe mid way up the E-Tower as a bowl of "Soup of the Day" comes up around the 40 euro spot without any bread. tctractors

20 degrees eh? I better bring an umbrella.:) It was 42 here a month back so I'll bring a beanie and coat.
The missus has got us looking at all sorts of stuff in the big smoke. I'm into old engines and machinery so I have a couple of museums I want to check out. We head north after 4 days and I want to check out the Duxford set up and then drive up and up and check out the land of haggis. Back to London and do a night at the Royal Albert hall and then do the south.I want to have a look at Portsmouth and then west.
Whats to see if we go east from London to the coast and follow the salt water around to Portsmouth? Waste of time or worth doing?
We are doing the Paris bit for only a few days as its the same price to fly home from there as Heathrow. We will have time to look at the Leaning Tower of Eiffel and look at the pictures. As for the tucker,we tend to live cheap so if the try me out on a 40 euro bowl of pea soup there will be a deportation coming up;)

Ray, the Natural History Museum (free entry) its near the Albert Hall (Disco Bar) also close to Harrods is a great place to pop into, they even have a chunk of U.S. timber hanging off a wall, the building is not a bad bit of cement, then the Tower Bridge might tick the engineering box this is also a goodish bit of brick work, next to it is H.M.S. Belfast and the South Bank with a Fair Ground ride on it, up to the Boarder is the Lake District then its worth driving on up to Mt Snowdon, then on to Loch Ness, as for doing things cheap any Castle to do with Military serve great food for small coins, at Duxford the B24's are top Kites, but Paris is a bit spendy on the Beer side needing around £150 Euro's per nite to get the bride and myself "Topped Up" the C.D. Airport is a bit nutty needing a train ride to collect your baggage with not to many English directions.

Thanks,a lot of those spots we have already booked into. I've heard the steam museum is good out at Kew Bridge?
We get the train to Paris just for the look. Not into the turps so that won't be too much of an issue. We leave for Singapore from CD so that will be interesting.

Thanks for all the tips. The water and steam I think is the one at Kew bridge and I'll definitely be looking at the Crossness pump.
That place up in the Lakes District I'll try and swing as well. I've not had much to do with RB's but I have a Ruston starting engine here out of one and I would like to get hold of a V4 Yeoman? that they used and restore it.

We will be oop north this coming weekend Nige. Just had a look at that site. I'm to late,I could have bored the cylinders on the Scotsman in situ for them :D Looks like lots to see all through there. I'm going to have to juggle the wishlist a bit with the Missus:)
We leave Perth tomorrow morning so its a day of tying up a thousand loose ends.

G..G..G..Granville.........!! Fetch your cloth.
Ray, TBH there is far more in the NRM than you can satisfactorily see in one day unless you scoot round there. However I'm sure your wife probably wouldn't be too amused though. Maybe you could persuade her to go off on her own and look at the Minster - there is a shuttle service between the two that runs every 15 minutes.

Regarding Scotsman, the cylinders were bored out bigger to 19" diameter a few years ago to get "more power than an A3 ever produced before", according to those who were looking after the loco at the time but in doing it they almost ended up buggering up the main frames. What it needs now is new liners to bring the cylinder bores back to where they were designed to be, 18" dia IIRC. No worries, Ian Riley's lads at Bury have it in their capable charge now.

Thats what they did with loco's here. The one I bored I took from 16 to 16.25.I think the next rebore was to take the sleeve out and start back at standard size.
The cook already has made the Cathedral a must visit so I think we may be able to come to an arrangement. :)
