Hello everyone.
Thought i'd better introduce myself after lurking in the background for a while, I am but a humble parts monkey for a company selling aftermarket/ genuine volvo parts for construction equipment.
Not been in the industry long (couple of years) but love all the heavy equipment. and to be honest anything with an engine.
Fantastic site you have, with such a wealth of knowlage and experience, I am more of a stalker than a poster, and love reading about your exploits/ and daily trail's for the fitters/operators.

A quick question for you being a parts man, Volvo trucks use vcads and guided diagnostics. What does the earthmoving equipment use and are the systems interchangeable? Do Volvo make a handheld analyser for the mechanics working in the Bush? I personally haven't had much to do with Volvo construction equipment, other than the basics, but seem like excavators and wheel loaders built well. Wasn't a fan if the trucks, to many plastic components and parts requiring special tools

having only done this a couple of years, and only the parts side related to dumptrucks, i know that from the d series ADT's onwards they used vcads, before that to basic fault find the contronics box is used, that was mounted in the cab as an optional extra in some trucks, but most people who owned the trucks from new spec'd it once and took it out when the sold the truck, or moved it between trucks with faults, like a vcads system.
From what i see on here, there either isn't that much volvo construction equipment out there, or it doesn't go wrong half as much as other brands, as they are nothalf as many questions put up asking about how to fix them as other brands. Alot of the "Special Tools" arn't that special, our fitter's manage without them and make there own and are just purpose built Safety devices, or tool's that you have had to make to do the same job on other machines....that cut down wrench or bar bent in a particular way, you fitters (bush mechanics) are genius's when it comes to joyrigging something up to get round a problem.
