Looked like an accident waiting to happen from the start. The whole site is congested with material dumped where convenient. The truck with the boom tip setting in the road must have been brain dead to be there. He had a way out as you see him driving off at the end of the video. Looks like they spent the absolute minimum of time to prep the road. No time to widen it out a bit and give them some room. Last but not least, do them multiaxle transporters not have brakes? Funniest thing is the push trucks backup alarm coming on at the end of the video. You think he was trying to drive to his car as his day was done?

On second thought I am not sure if the lead truck had his brakes locked or if the transporter overtook him. Being in low gear his tires would skid as the load pushed faster than his engine could handle. His only hope would have been to shove the clutch in and steer past the truck facing him on the left hoping he got moving. Still would not have been pretty.

Loose material, not enough rubber on the road and working friction brakes in the wrong area of that train.

That vid has been out there a while . Looks like typical Big boss was in a hurry job . Before you trash me just look at that whole deal . The break over on the hill was way too sharp . There were axles over loaded and some with nearly nothing on them . That's the momentum and excess speed . There was a decision to not trim the point of the hill .

There apparently wasn't anything worked out for control or the driver with the boom section wouldn't have been in the way along with the guy on foot watching the white trucks left front corner . What about the guy that runs ahead of the truck and places himself between the two trucks . the driver with the crane had his hands overloaded and now he has 2 guys on foot in front of him in a total panic situation .

But the key thing that lets me know this is a result of poor management and cost cutting its the simple fact that machine is multiple pieces . If I recall the upper half is 4 pieces and the lower half is 3 pieces .

Time spent and 6 or 7 extra loads would have been way better than this youtube vid enshrined on the net forever .

I wasn't super impressed with their tie down job either. It kind of looks like it pulled a bunch of weight off the drives of the lead truck when it broke over the crown, once he lost traction he was done either way. It probably ended about as good as it could have, nobody died and the machine looked okay (ish).

And since when do you hook the truck in the rear with a chain?? And not much of a chain at that. Looks like they forgot to bring the tow/push bar with them to the job. And the first thing the driver in the rear did when things went bad is jump out and run. Hard to apply your brakes when your foot is on the ground

I think would have bailed too. There was no saving it once it started to go, pull the knob and jump.

Lets not forget the bald tires on the push truck, he probably would have slid down the hill all by himself, maybe he pulled the brake button upon ejection. Must have been supers first move.

Its all about the brakes on the transporter. The trucks on either end don't matter. The transporter brakes make or break the deal.

Exactly. The rig came over the crest just like it was designed to, self leveled beautifully, but on the down grade the brakes wouldn't hold the load. I don't know, but I'm going to assume that the transporter brakes are slaved off the pull truck and the driver couldn't release the binders and steer because if he did the whole shebang would have gained way too much speed. As it was after the lead truck jacknifed the front of the transporter off the haul road, the load made a fairly graceful departure and stuck the landing. Nobody killed and not too much paperwork to fill out.

By the way, I'm with the driver of the rear truck, set the parking brakes and bail, nothing more to be done at that point. Looks to me like the lead truck driver rode it in which I give points for, but then with all that iron rolling down hill after you there's really no place to run, right?

Lead truck was being Pushed... Better braking with using the Gears like he did...

But over powered / pushed by the weight...

Seems they would have the trailer hooked up to the cab trailer brake lever...Air...

Somebody sure didn't know what the hell was going on...

Plus... The area down hill should have already been CLEARED , just in case...
.
Hey... The crane is close by... Put that crap back together and do it again...
