Guest - The D6 9U is a 1958 year of build. The last 9U tractor built was S/N 9U 29764 in 1959.
You should see if that old D6 is available, and worth saving. They are a very good model of Cat, and too many are going to China as scrap.

The tree knocker is known by numerous names .. tree spear .. tree bar .. and most commonly .. tree pusher. Search "tree pusher" under Google and you'll find a few ..

Some Australian tree pushers ..

Thanks OzDozer, Know any specs weight or hp? His ranch foreman said they got it running a few years back and then parked it, since then the can on exhaust has rusted threw probably water in it, under carriage shot. He has an D-8 closer to my house he spent $50,000 on engine rebuild, 2 months it threw rod through block its been sitting for about a year. I would have complained to Cat dealer but he told me he had already spent enough money on it just going to leave it in the woods. Must be niece to have to much money. I'll get some pics of it, would be nice to have in my rock pit if I could get it cheap.

Guest - The 9U D6 weighs around 17,500 lbs bare .. add around 3800 lbs for the #6S (straight) blade .. about 600 lbs for the #46 hyd control group .. plus, probably another 2000 lbs for the canopy and framework on the blade.
Add in a little more for accumulated dirt, and you'd have a total of about 24,000 lbs.

If it has a rear-mounted Hyster winch, add another 2000 lbs.

The 9U series was released in 1947, and fitted with the "all-new" D318, 4.5" bore, 6 cyl engine .. and was rated at 75 belt HP and 65 DBHP, at 1400 RPM.
In 1954, a major engine upgrade saw the HP raised to 93 belt HP, and 75 DBHP .. which was largely achieved by increasing high idle RPM to 1600 RPM. Fuel delivery was also turned up and bigger injectors fitted to deliver the extra fuel.

Stuck engines from water down the exhaust are all part of the deal on old tractors. They can usuually be unstuck without a great amount of effort.

Seriously worn undercarriage is another whole ball game, and would probably be the main reason she's parked up.
Unless you can find a donor tractor to supply better undercarriage, there is little you can do with the tractor as far as making it a working tractor. The value of the tractor as it stands, is purely scrap value.

oh you are teasing us with those picture. since ozdozer lives where they don't get snow. the D6 9U is the most popular winter freighting cat ever made next to the TD-18( sorry ozdozer, DUAL RULE, LOL)
i had the D6 9U known as THE HOOD out on the muskeg walking on water, the Td-9 and TD-6 stayed home because they would have drowned, LOL

I think Joey is going to need to build a lowbed to pull behind the old Ford and collect some of these old machines sitting in back yards :D

It is a shame to see the old tired iron be sold for scrap. Most of the old tired iron from the RB Auction in Surrey is bought for scrap. It doesn't go very far the scrap dealer is 1/2 a mile down the road.

With the price of oversize scrap selling for 130-140 dollars a ton a old D6 Cat being discussed would be worth 1680 dollars.

Every used truck and car is heading for scrap. Old trucks like Chevys and 70s Fords heading for scrap. Auto hulks is 130 dollars a ton and the scrap dealers are taking them tires and all you don't remove the battery or drain the gas tank.

Right now the demand is there so everybody is cleaning house when the market drops off people will be sitting on the scrap till the price goes back up.

It is so bad that construction sites in B.C. are getting copper piping stolen out of new houses. People are stealing phone booths for the aluminum. These people with drug problems are cutting high voltage lines for the copper.

Even in my area people are going into other peoples yards and stealing scrap aluminum and copper. These people do have a drug problem so they are stealing scrap selling it to scrap dealers so they can get money for drugs.

These drug addicted people will crawl into your crawlspace and cut your copper water pipes out while your not home.

Its at the point now you want to give these people stealing scrap a lead pill.

Vancouver has a real bad problem you see the street bums which there are allot of them with shopping carts with scrap metal pushing them to the metal recyclers.

we have that problem up here with stealing. they steal the copper out of the boarded up houses in town and then the water fills up the basement( they steal the main water line in the house.) so the town guys have to dig up in front of the house to turn the water off because they can't get in the basement because it is full of water.

wonder when it will end.
