County and township maintenance and snow removal,
We had a fire extinguisher service tech at our shop yesterday, checking and updating our inventory in shop and on our vehicles and heavy equipment. I was really surprised at what can take an extinguisher out of service. What most of us consider minor cosmetic wear and tear damage to labels, tags, and serial numbers is enough to cause these to be removed from service, and be replaced by a new one. This seems like a waste to some of us, but I do understand liability problems, and I would never want to see someone hurt because of a lack of proper fire protection. I did an image search for M-Series graders, and didn't find any pictures of fire extinguishers mounted anywhere outside of the machine. On our G's and H's, the preferred spot was an area on the front mainframe, left side, just ahead of the cab far enough to clear the flip open lower windows. Vertical mount, easily reached from ground level. On the M's, we try to use the same general area, but our operator question is- Where does everyone else mount theirs? Inside the cab seems a little small for a 10ABC unit, and other locations on the machine seem to collect mud, ice, or snow, depending on the season. Any ideas, and maybe a few pictures would be appreciated.

smoothoperator...I have no idea who hit your mailbox.

G..G..G..Granville.........!! Fetch your cloth.
Probably won't work for you if you have a blade/snow wing installed but we mount our hand-held extinguishers (20-pound ABC) right on the front end of the front frame where the counterweight bolts on. BTW we also have centralised fire suppression systems installed as well.

This is where the company I work for mounted it on my grader. Not ideal as it picks up a lot of mud etc but its ok with a cover on the extinguisher. Enlarge the photo to see the fire extinguisher better.
