Couple of questions regarding the Gehl 5640 with the 80hp Deutz with turbo.

What would make it hunt/pulsate at idle until it warms?

Have a rpm range...say 1000 to 1500 rpm, where it vibrates the cab pretty good. Smooths out nicely otherwise. Engine mount or engine to pump coupler issues? Seems strange.

I drove one the other day that the hydraulics whined quite a bit, had low hrs., but my friend's has 5k plus hours and is quiet. Big gehl dealer I spoke with said they had a handful of 5640's that whined more than others, but were none the worse for it. They said check hose routing to see if they were laying up against anything.

Depending how new it is, newer emissions engines will surge or at least sound like it. That the government, that is how it is. As for the whine, unless there are other issues, probably normal.

I have a 4640 and by all means drop the belly pans and check to pump mount bolts. Mine were falling out when I got mine. How many hours on the Deutz? Mine has never pulsed but does like the glow plugs when it gets cold.

Mid 2000's model. Less than 300 hrs. I've operated three or four of these 5640's that had the surging idle. Operated a couple 4835's with the Deutz that vibrated at certain rpm's. I will check the pump mount bolts. Thank you.

I figured out the vibration today - reminded me of when I was working on the Ls180 New holland...they had motor mount issues, so I took the pans off and saw it had rock hard dried clay around both motor and pump mounts. Chipped away at it, then prressure washed it and it's smooth as silk. Guess the clay was keeping the rubber mounts from being able to vibrate properly.

Talked to a friend who is a diesel mechanic and he said stale fuel can cause the Deutz to go hunting at idle. Since the machine has sat for a year to two years, I put some sea foam and fuel conditioner in, and ran it for a while. Is a bit better already on a cold start.
