What's you alls thoughts? Also I see there is a mobile crane operator certification and a certified crane liscense. What one is better to have or both? What's more widely accepted ? Thanks guys

Not that I want to sway you toward the Union, just wondering why you are looking for a non Union crane?

Thats great Brockkrak. Having worked around cranes in the past and the cdl liscense will help when you apply for a job at a crane company. Also helps if you are a multitasker able to make decisions on your own whith somewhat limited information at the time.Other than that show up on time, work yer but off,and if ya aint careful the boss will say..........Hey Brock ! Joe called in sick today,I need you to take the crane over to so in so to set a A/C unit:)Good luck with it Brockkrak.

Those cert’s and licenses are all fine and good, but they’re still only just documents. Chase the hook for however many years it takes, wether it be as a non union oiler or as a union apprentice, to be as competent and knowledgeable as possible. Take pride in your profession in every aspect of it too! Get the mentoring of multiple veteran operators to learn all the areas of the game, from set up’s, inspections, maint’, repairs, assembly and tear downs, mobilization, CHARTS, signaling, rigging, the OSHA 1400 series of CFR’s, and how to be always aware of potential hazards by the crews that interact with the crane.
