In addition to being an operator, I am also an old iron addict and model nut.
It's a good year for us, here is some news.
Norscott is coming out with some neat Cat models.
some highlights include
1955-59 977E track loader. 1/50
14M grader, 1/50
657G scraper, 1/50
#12 grader, 1/87
There is also the Tot farmer/First Gear 1/50 Allis Chalmers TS300 scraper.
Just thought you'd like to know!

I have always liked the Versatile Big Roy in the 3rd link. Only problem with models is that I seem to like all the pricey ones. :cool2

Bucks Up

Yeah, it's a cross we all must bear.....
I saw a 1/16th scale Big Bud tractor at a toy show, it looked like all it needed was a key and some diesel fuel to run....

The best way to avoid that "second childhood" label, is to never admit to having left the first one.....

I hope Norscot makes the 16M or 24M grader in 1:50 scale. I really want a 16M... it looks really nice! :D

The 14M looks great, but the 657G is the star for this years releases. I think I need about a case or so of them to do a proper SoCal jobsite layout.

I can't wait

Now somebody needs to come up with a modern pushcat.....although, I'd love to see one of the EMD products DD9G's teamed up with a 657G, push-pull or not! Vintage correct or not. Hey, it's MY reality....
Now, when is somebody going to step up and make a 666?

I'd love to get my hands on a 1/50 Cat 651/657B, or 666B scraper at a reasonable price. These were the kings of the scraper world for so many years. Also International 495 and Allis Chalmers 460 scrapers in 1/50.

Norscot does a pretty good job with their models and most are at a fair price. I can't believe what some models go for. Bidding on E-bay simply goes nuts at times for some.

I recall a while back reading an article on die cast farm & construction replicas that this is one of the best investments you can make because over the years they increse in value pretty good. Just check on ebay for die cast Caterpillar, I cant believe what some people will pay for this stuff, as much as over a thousand bucks:eek:. But I cant see me paying that kind of money, but you never know.

If the model is in mint condition + the original box is still left then yes they increase in value every year. If the model is discontinued then it will increase even more in value every year.

I bought my self a Bucyrus 495HF in 1:50 scale not very long ago and it is the most expensive model I have. But it is far from The most expensive model avaible.

Norscot does have some very nice 1:50 scale stuff coming out. I'm definately getting the 330DL, the 950H, and the 953D.

I have an NZG 1:50 Komatsu PC210 on order right now, should be here this week.

Check the photo galleries, there is some nice stuff in there.
Easier way, the scraper section

There are models out of the 657A, 650, and soon either a 660 or 666, but the reasonably priced part, that's a different story! The 650 would cost about $1000 USD by the time you got it here....one of Jerry Halls 1/24 scale 666 replicas, was up to about $2800.00 on Ebay, last time I looked!
He lives in Ravenna Nebraska, about 3 hours away from me.
The best we can do right now, is the Norscot 657G, at about $50. Although I hope some more vintage Cat stuff will make it out soon.
