Well with out the serial no. I would guess it is in the mid 50s because it has a starter on the pony motor, it is a classic for sure but if you want it to work with I would RUN away no matter how good it runs.

Haha I was afraid it would be that old. I was hoping for maybe late 60's early 70's. any idea of its weight? If he will go cheap enough it might be worth scraping.

Well we see it has a angle hyd blade, hand clutch, elect start for the pony, the 4R s/n and the 5R s/n 1941-1947 and the 8u s/n and 9u s/n 1947-1959. Track gauge 60" or 74" and a draw bar HP of 55-75. We can't see the stack so water in the cylinders is possible which could mean some big issues. It's cheap enough but could need a lot of work, also if you have never run a dozer of this age or started one like this it is a job to say the least. I would like it for a show and tell but not to run all day for sure. I had run a lot of them in my teens. The other issue is loading and hauling from where it's at, will the owner let you work on it there for a short time. The weight will be around 20,000 pounds. After baring the engine over with the valves off if it turns you may be able to push start it, you will need to check the fluids, the steering pump res is a must along with the clutch release, if it starts the wrong way while push starting, it will spit the oil out the air cleaner on you. You should also get a shop manual, the injection pump, pony, clutch, finals, trans all need fluid checks before moving. It's like said a nice find if with a little tlc it would run!.

D6B (37A) 1959-1967, D6B (44A) 59-67 also. The D6C (74A) and (76A) 63-67 and (10K) 67-76 along with the 69U lpg 72-77 the 99J 67-76 the 69U lgp again 72-77 weight is lighter by 7000 pounds. D6D started in 1977, series ended in 1986. Thought I would add some extra s/n and series for all. I had the shop book on my desk for the d6 4R/5R/8U/9U because I had a customer with a question last week on a clutch adjustment.

On the rear in the center below the fuel tank you will see a large filler hole, this is the steering clutch housing, it sits on top of the rear case, two the right there is a round cap with a pipe plug in it. Remove the pipe plug, and filler cap and fill to oil comes out, move levers to pump out air, then top off again. The housing had a pump mounted on the under side that gave the steering levers a less force feel to engage. I seem to remember some did not have this to start with, because I can remember them flipping coins on certain machines to see who was running what back then.

Thanks for the help guys. I have some equipment and I could prolly get it on a trailer as long as the guy wasn't to concerned with his yard. I'm thinking that with its age and size it's prolly not a machine of much use for me. I'm looking for something to push some brush and clear some farm land. I'm looking at a case 1450 its considerably more money but is a fully operational machine.

I'm guessing its middle 50s as it got spoke type front idlers and its a 9u. the starter is an add on as all this vintage dozers were pull rope start . I could be wrong though . I also think it was parked there because of some issue like main clutch trouble or final drive twisted off , or engine trouble but maybe just parked with no issues . its worth a try to get it going and see if it runs ok , fresh fuel and check all the fluid level before you start and move .
