broke kingpost . Been told by a JCB dealer that it is ductile iron and cannot be welded. True?

Are you thinking of taking a shot at this yourself? or do you want to find somebody that will guarantee the work?

Probably cheaper and easier to find a used one than to find somebody to do it right, but if it was me I'd take a shot at it. A whole lot of grinding. Maybe butter it with Ni55 and fill the rest. Peen as you go, and maybe cover it with ashes when you're done?

Tom V...Tom V... Where art thou Tom V? Somebody could probably use your help about now. I wonder how much he charges for emergency call out? We have a cat 215 that the main boom pin ear next to the cab broke off of. We ave welded and welded and fishplated and welded. It just breaks again, but it got it by for awhile. Looks about like the same stuff. If you do weld it, you will always want to keep poeple out from around it in case it breaks again.

It probably could be welded, but i would only take it to someone who knows how to do it. There is alot of preheating and temperature control to deal with when welding this kind of metal.
