We have a 2008 with 2700 hours. Yesterday out in the the field it quit swinging, everything else works as it should. When you go to swing left to right or versa, there is a clunk but no movement, the RPM's drop and then you release they go back up. While tracking in low RPM's and trying to swing, RPM's bottom out so that machine will not move, once the swing stick is released RPM's go back up and machine will track again. There is no movement at all with the swing, just a clunk either way. Any help will be more than appreciated.

It sounds like your swing drive has broken up some gears and jammed. Motor must still be good or it wouldn't load the engine. Check drive oil for metal chips.

We bought the machine used with low hours, fully serviced with no issues. Is there an inspection plate to check the swing gear, and if so where is it located. we are working from the joystick back right now. Thanks.

Update. We went to do service on the excavator, operator put the bucket and lifted the front of the machine off the ground, lifted the boom up to let it down and swing gear started working again. Played with it for about 20 minutes, high/low RPM, tracking, blading etc. cab swung everytime/everywhere. Maintenance mechanic comes in to finish greasing starts machine up, cab is locked again. I am out of ideas. Any help please?

No, not yet, hope to get back into it today/tomorrow. It just doesn't seem like it though, when it's free it's smooth as can be no secondary noise, missing, clunking, etc. talked to the dealer yesterday that has worked on it before and he seems to think it could be in the motor but more along the lines of bypass due to o-rings etc. and the brake engaging when it shouldn't. No therory on why when we lift it with the boom it will spin though. Appreciate all the help on this.

That sounds expen$ive Mike, If you lift the machine you unload the main bearing and that may be the problem. Start the machine and have someone lift and lower the boom forcing the bearing up and down, measure the movement between both halves of the big bearing as you do this and come on back.
