John Deere 566 baler

Just bought a "new to me" JD 566 round baler with net wrap. With good quality round bales bringing $75-100 per bale now we are going to start baling all our own instead of the 1/3 landowner - 2/3 share crop agreement we have been in to put the hay crop up.

is that the 4000 bale machine? looks pretty straight.

congrats on the new baler! I run a small custom haying business with a budy but we use a Vermeer 605F lol Just keep it greased and oiled, you should be good to go

No, this is a different one that has 8000 bales on it. When /i went to look at the 4000 bale machine it was in poor condition after a closer look over. Also the bale counter was not accurate and only showed 1000 bales the owner then told me the counter had been changed out, so I passed on that one. This one is in overall excellent condition; 1997 model for $7100.00 purchased on Ebay and only needs a few minor repairs to make it field ready. It has been well maintained and always shedded.

What type of hay cutter do you run? I am going to buy a disc mower and new rake also. Looking at a 275Deere disc mower but dealer priced it at $10,0000. and a new 8 - wheel rake for $3250.00 It is going to be painfull but I am ready to pull the trigger on it. Looked at several used disc mowers but anything 9' bar, is 5-7K with quite alot of wear on the unit, so I think new is the way to go?

up here i use a jd 1600a moco older slower reliable low maintanance. also use a nh 1431 disc bine fast no plugs but high maintenance. discbines hate rocks. haybines hate dirt. 14 ft and 12 ft respectively. as for rakes we use a left and right hand bar rakes hooked on a t bar. cheep and effective.

if a guy can afford it i thing new is the way to go when dealing with a discbine. who knows what kind of s**t the last owner was running in. gearboxes and all. the rake is another matter. with a wheel rake a guy can judge the condition easily. the problem is finding one.
