That Brings Back the Years to Me,Back in My Younger Years i was in the US Army, went to Heavy Equp. School in Ft. Lenordwood Mo. & as far as i cam remember not a word was said about the Tournadozer ( we called them TDs ) any way i was shipped to france in early 1962, and the Company that is was in had 8 of them, they didnt have a Blade on them. we were pulling pans, i think they were 18 yd. pans, on the front was a big bush block, we were working on a site for a railroad going from a French RR to a Ammo Dump, it was about 15 or so miles, there was another Hea vy Eguipment Co. that had some TDs but there units had Blades on them, they also were pulling pans, But there was a little difference in the gearing of the ones with Blades & the ones we were Operating, our TDs were a littler faster in all 4 gears, it might have been because of the Blades, they may have been Geared Lower, Dont know, they all had 671 Jimmys, One of the things that i will never forget was how good of a seat they had, these things really set & rode good, even on very ruff ground, the biggest problem we had with the were the Brakes, the were some sort of disk brake, the Air bladder would get stiff from the heat & Crack, once that happen it was hard to keep the air pressure up, same for the 4 gears, the clutch packs out front worked with a bunch of disk some drive & some driven, the rubber bladder that applied the pressure would crack and the same problem, everthing about the control was operated by air, the winches were Elect, You 2 block it when oper. a pan & it could snap a cable with the blink of your eye, They were a Very Noise Rig to run, guess that has something to do with i cant hear nothing today,
Thanks For Posting the Picture, I have a couple pic. of them from the Army days, but i have never figured out how to post a pic
