Our JD 772 transmission has started to overheat when we are driving it down the road. When we get into the higher gears it overheats.

Suggestions or adivce?

I ran a 772 d for two years and had the same problem, the biggest issue i had was the trans having too much oil. if the level was even a hair over the full, it would overheat while roading. took us a while to figure it out, and once we lowered the level to about half on the dipstick, never had that problem.

it might be the first place to look and is a cheep fix too. good luck.

Yep that would be the first thing to check. You want to make sure the trans. oil level is not higher than 1/2 way on the hash marks. Check when cold before starting.

What they said^^

....and check that the cooler bypass valve is opening at temperature and that tha cooler isnt plugged.

Just for kicks, show the operator how to knock the fan speed up to 100% when this occurs and see if the fan is actually doing its job.

I am embarrassed to say we have never changed the transmission filter. The mechanic thought he was but he was actually changing the rear differential filter. When we get this changed I will provide an update.
