I am working on a 1984 580SE...it needs a radiatator and an oil cooler 2 of the oil cooler tubes that run the frame are leaking...and the cooler fins are rotted out...and both rear brake lines are leaking....on the cooler lines can i use hydraulic hoses?.i would change all 4 of them...how much pressure is in theis hoses...there is small hoses with hose clamps connecting them to the cooler.....Whare is a good place to look for a used oil cooler???..should i also look for a used radiator??? i have found new aftermarket ones for around $500...the brake lines are leaking hydraulic fluid and i looked at the manual and the master cylinder is fead from a small hose off the hydro filter does that mean i do not have to access the master cylinder to fill ????i am assuming there are bleaders at the rear brakes...any help would be appreaciated.....:bash

Wow. You are about to get into a lot of work...
So far as I know Oil Coolers are not available aftermarket. They are bad to leak and expensive.:(
You can find aftermarket radiators.
I was able to get both of mine repaired at a local radiator shop althought they don't especially like to work on the coolers.
They have aluminum fins which means they cannot boil the unit because this will destroy the aluminum.
These repairs were less that $100 each for mine.

There is not a great deal of pressure on the lines, and I think one side actually may actually be suction rated, meaning you need the steel lines or suction rated hoses which are real fat.
I would use only the metal lines unless the old one could be repaired also.
I did use some standard 1/2" hose on the short 4" connections vs. the fat suction hose that Case used. This thick hose is hard to work with.
Maybe someone else here can advise what actual pressure/suction is really involved.
If yours is like mine the cooler left side is for the power shuttle, and the right side is for the main hydraulic fluid. (looking from the front)
You do need to cap these off unless you are changing the fluids at the same time.

This is all a nasty job and cleanup necessary IF you plan to attempt to get the parts repaired.

Change the fan belt, tensioner, engine mounts, and check the hydraulic pump coupling while you get the front end off.:IMO

I did not have any luck looking, but some might be available.
Mel says when Case rebuilds a shuttle a new cooler is part of the rebuild.
Apparently these things leak often. The oil destroyed the front engine mount on mine.

I just got done repairing a breakline on my 580se. Yes, if you have the master cylinders with hoses connected to the caps they should fill from the hydraulic system. There are bleaders that you can get to from underneath but I ended up pulling the floor out in order to run the replacement line.

Re Brakes -
Only late model 580E's had master cyls that were auto filled from hydraulics. Early ones had standard spring clip type covers, which also used hydraulic oil.
The slave cyls were also configured differently from early to later models - either way the slave cyls have bleeder screws on them.

edit - rbmiles pic shows the later type set up.

This is mine looking into the hole with the instrument cluster removed.
I've not had to work on any this yet, but it looks like you might need to remove the whole cover under the steering wheel to reallly get to it.

The hose clamps around the cylinder reservoirs are indication that you do not remove them to add brake fluid.
It looks like when changing hydraulic fluid the brake system could get some air in it..?

Per what alrman says I must have one of the later 580SE units. Its a 1985 model

You could check with these folks.
http://www.fawcett.cc/default.htm

If yours has the straight down connections I suspect it's a Case # A171876 which Coleman Equipment shows at ~ $622 I think.
At one point when I was looking I found some place that made custom coolers. You might could get someone to take your old one for a pattern and make you a replacement.
If these leak so often it looks like someone offshore would be building aftermarket versions, but I have yet to find one.
I wonder what the coolers sell for in the UK? I have bought parts (actually recently) from England that was really cheap even after shipping.

Try this link.

You would need to call or email them because the search does not find one.

http://www.brokentractor.com/ might have something used to offer or the new Case part cheaper than Coleman

You have me thinking and a little worried now. MY SE is an 84 but I think an earlier model as it does not have the hydraulic feed to the master cylinders. I have had a marine business for twenty years and had to come up with all sorts of oil cooler parts for older inboard engines. Any cooler that will fit, has the volume and the cooling surface should work. I have only looked at the parts catalog at the cooler, never looked at mine but you bet I will now, but did find some that might work. The prices seem to be pretty good also. http://www.alamomotorsports.com/pmc/Cat_page09.html

Has anybody yet realized that the original 'oil cooler' on a 580E - serves BOTH hydraulic & transmission?
So, it actually is two oil coolers in one ..... so if you are thinking aftermarket you need to purchase 2 oil coolers .... & make them fit ..... & hopefully they will be efficient enough to do their job. Maybe OK while pushing snow, but what about ambient temps of 80-100 deg F in Summer?
That $622 for the genuine, that bolts straight on & no more hassles looks good to me.

The oil coolers in the link are about 1/4 of the size of the factory cooler...the large one might do the trany but i dont think it would come close to the hydro ..and the last thing you want to do is overheat your hydraulics or your shuttle shift on a 90 degree day.....i have looked on the net and i cannot find any used coolers i will start calling places on monday....ther are radiatators starting at $425..aftermarket and $820 from case for the A171080...the cooler is $622 for #A171876...by the time i get the 4 lines for the cooler tha 2 brake lines and 2 brake hoses....and a new belt, and coupler...i'm looking ata little over $2000....thats my cost i think i will have a medflight stand by when i tell the coustomer...LOL...i wonder how many hours it will take to replace everything....

Be proud it does not have the angled connections. They are over $800. I don't know why they are so much more.
If you are as slow am me and take time to repaint everything it will take 2 weeks. :falldownlaugh
I have to stop, go get parts, stop go get tools, stop read some on the forum, stop drink beer and cuss.

Alrman would do it in 2 hours.

Find a used one with a hole and have someone silver soldier the metal. This is not copper tubes. Aluminum fins and metal tubes.
Actually I would recommend the new one from Case although I know it hurts.

On page 2 of this thread I have a picture of mine done.

It's too bad the PO replaced the cooler lines and didnot paint them...the 580 was used to load sanders with salt than was sold the new owner left it sit for 2 years and never washed and oiled it and the cooler ,radiatator and cooling tubes are rotted away....along with the brake lines ...the floor is crusty but that is an easy fix......your mechine is realy comming out nice i can not wait to see the finish product.....keep up the good work and if you are lucky i will swap this 580 for yours when you are done and you can start over....LOL
