That would have been in the summer of 2007. Todd H. was still in charge back then. They sent me out with a shop mechanic as an operator which wasn't very much fun at all.

I knew it was just a matter of time before we would get to see something like this. I came in on a Sunday a few hours early to work on the drum of the OTHER W2100, not the one pictured here and this is what happened over the weekend. The Friday night when they were in such a rush to get home and onto the habits they have, they neglected to .... well everything.

Well we know now why I started this thread.:beatsme
The foreman/milling supt shows up late with the rest of the ... crew and starts chewing me out when he found out I took pictures. Asks me why I didn't level the machine out blah blah blah...I asked him why he let his ... crew leave when the machine wasn't set down properly, and why this only seems to happen to that machine and not the one I run....they had no good answers and that was pretty much the last time I operated anything for these people. Maybe I'm wrong but I won't be involved with people like this. And yes, the rear end of that contraption the conveyor is sitting on did damage it a little bit. Just think, the operator was in such a hurry to leave he never even thought of that and swung the conveyor even a little to clear the machine parked ahead of him....This is how most of these Wirtgen only companies are, from what I've seen anyways.

Same thing happened to me on a friday the guys left the machine on the side of a city street by saturday when I went to put it on the float it was leaning towards the sidewalk and no covers on the controls etc..... gotta watch fridays....hey John do you know any operators up here I need one

I left Canada in 98 for good, I lost touch with all the Miller and Crupi people...wish I could help. I know plenty of America operators that would be there in a heartbeat if it wasn't for the border issues.
Dude thats typical of people that run machines that are too easy too run like Wirtgen make, they get lazy other ways. People that run and have run older mills, don't do things like whats pictured above and what you mentioned.

not all wirtgen only companies are like that, however a complete dummy can get away with running a wirtgen for a while before he's discovered to know nothing. But I have done my time with older machines and am perfectly happy to operate a machine that can darn near operate itself. People with older machine skills on a wirtgen are highly desired operators in the industry

If you read some of the other threads I've posted in....you would know I've run some machines that are a real treat to operate........
And actually I have enjoyed the later part of last year running that 2004 800-7 but they just aren't going to take care of it the in the ways that are important. They think throwing high dollar parts at it solves everything and that just ain't at all right, especially with older CMI.

Parking a milling machine
You should use the saftey stand to lock the machine out from falling or bleeding off and park it in a level enviroment as far away from live traffic lanes. If the stands are not there they shoulx be replaced. If that is not possible then the machine should be set with the cutter 2inches or less from the ground front down with the conveyor on the ground so the it does not list to either side. All machine hoses and holding or silenoids valves should be checked daily for leaks or signs of wear. That is our company policy.

I'd agree with keeping the boom lowered if the immediate area is free from traffic and/or equipment. Otherwise its kept high and slightly swung in the opposite direction of whatever way the slope might be. Iv about had it with sitting around.....winter has gotten old.
